Product Description

Girly Pink Spring is a girly version of adult Spring is Pink cardigan. It is a classically shaped cardigan knit seamlessly from the top down with simultaneously set in sleeves.

As with most of my cardigans, Girly Pink Spring is knit top down, completely seamlessly with set in sleeves knitted simultaneously with the body. First, you knit a few rows of the back, then carefully pick up the provisional cast on stitches at the shoulders and work a few rows of each front. At that point you pick up stitches along the tops of the armholes, and then join all pieces together to work the front, sleeves, and back simultaneously. The armholes are shaped with increases as you continue knitting down. All the upper sections are worked simultaneously until it is time to separate the sleeves stitches from the body, then you work body and sleeves independently.

The sample shown was knit in YarnArt Jeans. A substitute yarn is recommended below.

Girly Pink, Spring! Cardigan by Hanna Maciejewska

What is Being Made

Girly Pink, Spring! is a seamless knitted cardigan designed by independent designer Hanna Maciejewska. This garment is constructed using a top-down knitting method with set-in sleeves, creating a polished, professional finish without the need for seaming. The cardigan is worked in sport weight yarn, making it an ideal layering piece for spring and warmer seasons.

Construction Technique

This cardigan employs an advanced seamless construction method that demonstrates intermediate-level knitting skills. The garment begins with the back panel, which is cast on using a provisional cast-on technique. Once the back is established, stitches are carefully picked up at the shoulders to begin the front panels. The construction then progresses to picking up stitches along the armhole edges, at which point all pieces—front, sleeves, and back—are joined together and worked simultaneously in the round.

The armholes are shaped through strategic increases as knitting continues downward. This simultaneous construction method continues until the sleeve stitches are separated from the body stitches, after which the body and sleeves are completed independently. This approach eliminates seaming entirely and ensures precise fit and alignment throughout the garment.

Stitches and Techniques Used

  • Provisional cast-on method using crochet hook
  • Knit and purl stitches for foundational fabric
  • Top-down construction with simultaneous knitting of multiple garment sections
  • Circular needle knitting for seamless construction
  • Armhole shaping with increases
  • Set-in sleeve construction

Materials and Tools

The pattern calls for sport weight yarn and US 4 [3.5 mm] circular needles measuring 47 inches [120 cm] in length. A crochet hook is also required for executing the provisional cast-on method. The downloadable PDF format provides detailed instructions and stitch counts for multiple sizes, ensuring accessibility for knitters of varying experience levels within the intermediate range.

Skill Level

This cardigan is rated as an intermediate knitting project, suitable for knitters who have mastered basic techniques and are ready to tackle more complex construction methods. The simultaneous knitting of multiple sections and seamless top-down approach require attention to detail and familiarity with advanced shaping techniques.
