What is Being Made

The Framed Pullover is a contemporary take on the classic raglan sweater silhouette. This design features a modern cowl neck and cropped length, creating a stylish pullover suitable for intermediate knitters. The sweater is constructed with a raglan yoke construction, which creates seamless shaping from the neckline down through the shoulders and sleeves.

Design and Construction Techniques

This pullover employs several key knitting techniques to achieve its structured silhouette:

  • Raglan Shaping: The sweater uses traditional raglan increases to create the distinctive diagonal seam lines from the neckline to the underarms. This construction method provides a comfortable fit and elegant visual detail.
  • Cowl Neck: The design features a cowl neckline, which adds contemporary style and extra warmth around the neck area.
  • Cropped Length: The sweater is designed with a shorter body length, creating a modern, fitted silhouette.
  • Seamless Construction: The pattern uses marker placement and round-based construction for portions of the garment, allowing for seamless knitting in the round where applicable.
  • Divided Sleeves: The sleeves are divided from the body during construction, allowing for independent completion of the arm portions.

Stitches Used

The Framed Pullover utilizes fundamental knitting stitches appropriate for an intermediate skill level. The pattern includes purl stitches for texture and shaping, as indicated by the setup row instructions. Marker placement throughout the pattern indicates increases and shaping points that define the raglan construction and body divisions.

Materials and Yarn Weight

This pattern is designed to work with 3-ply and 4-ply yarn weights, offering flexibility in fiber choice while maintaining the intended drape and fit of the garment. The pattern is sized across multiple gauges to accommodate different yarn weights within this range. The sweater is worked on appropriate needles for the selected yarn weight, with the pattern providing multiple size options ranging from approximately 10.5 inches to 12 inches when measured from the cast-on edge at the center back neck.

Sizing and Fit

The Framed Pullover is offered in eight different sizes, with front stitch counts ranging from 47 to 82 stitches depending on the chosen size. This range of sizing ensures the pattern can accommodate various body measurements and fit preferences. The cropped length and raglan construction work together to create a flattering, modern silhouette.

Skill Level

Rated as an intermediate project, this pattern is suitable for knitters with foundational skills who are ready to tackle shaping techniques and multi-directional construction. The raglan shaping and the coordination of simultaneous increases and decreases require attention to pattern instructions, making it an ideal project for developing intermediate knitting skills.
