With many design options- cowl/scarf, trim options- pom poms or tassels; you can make this design suit your style.
Named Fluffy Clouds as this is what my daughter called it the first time she felt how soft the chenille feel yarn was, and she was very excited to model it and keep a tassel version for herself!
Make this in time for autumn/winter to keep you snuggly and warm in colder weather, the pattern is quick and easy that you can make one in many colours or for a friend to keep them warm too!
Scarf sample created using So Crafty Chunky baby in Cherry Blossom. You can substitute this for other chunky/super chunky yarns.
The cowl is available in 3 different sizes small-large. The scarf from age 3 years up to adult large.

What is Being Made
The Fluffy Clouds Scarf/Cowl is a crochet design created for children aged 3-5 years. This project offers versatility as it can be constructed as either a traditional scarf or a cowl, depending on the crafter's preference. The design includes optional tassels to enhance the finished piece with decorative flair.
Craft and Techniques
This is a crochet project suitable for beginner level crafters. The pattern employs fundamental crochet techniques that make it accessible to those new to the craft. The primary stitch technique used in this pattern is slip stitch rib, which creates a textured, structured fabric ideal for a children's accessory.
Stitches Used
- Slip stitch rib - the main stitch construction for the body of the scarf/cowl, creating a dense, ribbed texture
Materials and Tools Required
This project requires chunky or super chunky weight yarn. The original pattern calls for So Craft Chunky Baby yarn in the colorway Cherry Blossom, with 100g equaling 95 meters per skein. Crafters may substitute with any chunky yarn of their choice, though yardage requirements may vary depending on the meters per skein of the alternative yarn selected.
Essential tools include an 8.0mm crochet hook (or the appropriate size to obtain proper gauge), a tapestry needle for weaving in ends, and removable stitch markers (optional, for marking rows to track progress). For the scarf variation with tassels, a pom pom maker is optional; crafters may alternatively use cardboard as a substitute.
Gauge
The pattern specifies a gauge of 12 stitches and 13 rows measuring 4 inches by 4 inches (10 centimeters by 10 centimeters) when worked in slip stitch rib using an 8.0mm crochet hook. Achieving proper gauge is important for ensuring the finished scarf/cowl fits the intended child-sized dimensions.
