These mittens are worked from the fingers down to the cuff and feature a wide cable that is worked without twisting the stitches. You only need knits, purls, yarn overs and decreases to form the faux cable pattern. Additional techniques required: magic cast-on, provisional cast-on, lifted increases, chart reading.
A separate instructions are provided for a fingerless version. For an extra neat finish, you might want to try a tubular cast-on and bind-off.

This pattern looked interesting to me because it has a beautiful pattern which I am confident I can knit (intermediate) that will give a cable look without requiring actually knitting cables! I am just learning how to knit cables. Perfect for a long winter project.
