Epione Crescent Shawl by Julie Blagojevich
What is Being Made
Epione is a generous, crescent-shaped wrap designed by Julie Blagojevich. This crochet shawl is inspired by the mythological goddess Epione, known as the goddess of soothing and mother of Panacea and Hygieia. The design creates an elegant, flowing wrap suitable for layering and draping.
Construction Technique
The Epione shawl employs a two-phase construction method. The main body is worked using short rows to achieve length and create the crescent shape. Once the short-row section is complete, the shawl is finished with a dramatic border worked in rows along the outside edge, adding visual interest and definition to the wrap's perimeter.
Crochet Stitches Used
The pattern utilizes half double crochet (hdc) as the primary stitch throughout the design. This stitch choice provides a balanced fabric with good drape while maintaining structural integrity for the shawl's generous proportions.
