Project Overview

The Elephant Promenade Cowl is a knitted neck accessory inspired by Annie Lupton's popular Elephant Promenade sweater pattern. This design features charming colorwork depicting elephants marching in a parade procession around the cowl. As a stash-buster project, it requires minimal yardage while offering endless creative color possibilities for knitters looking to use up yarn from their stash.

What Is Being Made

This is a cowl—a circular neck accessory that pulls over the head and sits around the neck and shoulders for warmth and style. The finished cowl measures 21.5 inches (54.5 cm) in circumference and 9.25 inches (23.5 cm) tall, making it a versatile layering piece suitable for winter wear.

Knitting Techniques

The Elephant Promenade Cowl is constructed using stranded knitting in the round, a colorwork technique that allows multiple colors to be worked simultaneously while knitting circularly. This method creates the detailed elephant parade pattern visible on all sides of the finished cowl.
