Product Description

Dolcevinci is a crocheted cowl-transformer, which can be worn both as a head and neckwarmer.

The main part of the cowl is worked flat and sideways in a beautiful combination of three stitch patterns, full of delicate textures and lace. While working the last row, the cowl is joined in the round seamlessly, as-you-go.

The edges of both openings are embellished with a few rows of the eyelet stitch pattern and one of the openings has decreases to give it a smaller circumference than the other, which makes it very versatile.

Dolcevinci Crocheted Cowl-Transformer by Lena Fedotova

What is Being Made

Dolcevinci is a versatile crocheted cowl-transformer designed to function as both a head and neckwarmer. This innovative accessory features two openings with different circumferences, allowing the wearer to style it in multiple ways depending on preference and weather conditions. The dual-opening design makes it an exceptionally adaptable piece for transitional seasons and varied styling needs.

Construction and Techniques

The cowl is worked flat and sideways, building the fabric horizontally across the piece. During the final row, the cowl is joined seamlessly in the round using an as-you-go joining technique, eliminating the need for finishing seams and creating a polished, professional finish. This construction method ensures that the transition from flat working to circular form is invisible and maintains the integrity of the stitch patterns throughout.

Stitch Patterns and Textures

Dolcevinci showcases a beautiful combination of three distinct stitch patterns that work together to create delicate textures and lace elements throughout the cowl. The main body features these intricate stitch combinations, while the edges of both openings are embellished with eyelet stitch pattern rows. One opening incorporates decreases within the edging, creating a smaller circumference than the other opening. This strategic use of decreases adds to the cowl's versatility and allows for customized fit options.

Materials and Yarn Specifications

Dolcevinci is worked in 3-ply yarn weight, specifically using Malabrigo Sock yarn as specified in the pattern. The finished depth measurement is 12¼ inches (31 centimeters). The lightweight yarn choice combined with the delicate stitch patterns creates an airy, elegant fabric suitable for layering and extended wear.

Skill Level

This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty, making it appropriate for crocheters with some experience who are comfortable working with multiple stitch patterns and managing seamless joining techniques.
