Product Description
Knitted Accessories in Hayfield Bonus Aran Tweed: Hot Water Bottle Cover, Doggy Door Stop, and Draught Excluder
Project Overview
This downloadable PDF pattern from Hayfield offers three coordinated knitted accessories crafted from Hayfield Bonus Aran Tweed yarn. The collection includes a hot water bottle cover, a decorative doggy door stop, and a matching draught excluder, allowing crafters to create a complete set of functional home accessories using the same yarn base.
Hot Water Bottle Cover
Finished Dimensions: Approximately 36 cm (14 inches) in length and 20 cm (8 inches) in width. This cover is designed to provide insulation and protection while holding hot water bottles safely.
Yarn and Materials: One 400g ball of Hayfield Bonus Aran Tweed in shade 697. The pattern also works with standard Hayfield Bonus Aran yarn. Knitters will need one pair of 5mm (UK size 6 / USA size 8) knitting needles and one cable needle to complete the construction.
Techniques and Stitches: This intermediate-level project incorporates cable stitches, which are created using a cable needle to twist and cross yarn strands for decorative texture and visual interest.
Doggy Door Stop
Finished Dimensions: Approximately 30 cm (11¾ inches) in length. This charming accessory serves as both a decorative piece and a functional door stop.
Yarn and Materials: One 400g ball of Hayfield Bonus Aran Tweed in shade 695. Construction requires one pair of 4mm (UK size 8 / USA size 6) knitting needles, a stitch holder for managing stitches during shaping, and two buttons for eyes to complete the doggy face design.
Techniques and Stitches: The intermediate difficulty level involves shaping techniques to create the three-dimensional dog form, with stitch holder work allowing crafters to manage multiple sections during construction.
Doggy Draught Excluder
Finished Dimensions: Approximately 70 cm (27½ inches) in length, making this an extended version suitable for placement along doorways and windows to prevent draughts.
Yarn and Materials: One 400g ball of Hayfield Bonus Aran Tweed in shade 709. This piece uses the same 4mm (UK size 8 / USA size 6) knitting needles and stitch holder required for the door stop.
Techniques and Stitches: Like the door stop, this project employs intermediate-level shaping and stitch management techniques to create the elongated doggy form.
General Pattern Information
Yarn Weight and Fiber Content: All three projects use Hayfield Bonus Aran Tweed, an aran-weight yarn that provides excellent stitch definition for cable work and decorative details. The tweed variety adds visual texture and depth to the finished pieces. The wool content provides warmth and durability suitable for both functional and decorative applications.
Skill Level: Rated as intermediate difficulty, these patterns are suitable for knitters with foundational skills who are ready to work with cables, shaping techniques, and stitch holders.
Needle Requirements: The pattern specifies different needle sizes for different projects—5mm needles for the hot water bottle cover and 4mm needles for both the door stop and draught excluder—allowing for appropriate fabric density and drape for each item's intended purpose.

Pattern is going fine but as the wool comes in such large balls ,I'm going to have loads left over!
Lovely website.
The pattern for the hot water bottle cover was accurate, but more complicated than I'd expected. It worked fine though.
