Cuddle Buddy Bunny by Featherby & Friends

What Is Being Made

The Cuddle Buddy Bunny is a soft, stuffed crochet toy designed by Alicia Moore of Featherby & Friends. This beginner-friendly amigurumi project creates a huggable bunny companion perfect for children or as a decorative plush. The finished toy features articulated limbs, a fluffy tail, and facial details including safety eyes and a safety nose.

Craft & Project Type

This is a crochet project classified as a toy or amigurumi—the Japanese art of crocheting small, stuffed three-dimensional figures. The pattern uses continuous rounds construction, meaning you work in spirals without joining or turning, which creates a seamless, organic look ideal for soft toys.

Difficulty Level & Techniques

Rated as beginner difficulty, this pattern is accessible to newer crocheters while still producing a professional-looking finished toy. Key techniques employed include:

  • Magic loop or magic ring foundation for starting rounds
  • Single crochet stitches worked in continuous rounds
  • Increases (inc) to expand fabric width
  • Decreases (dec) to shape and close sections
  • Back loop only stitching to create textured ribbing on legs
  • Pinching and seaming through both layers for limb closure
  • Strategic stuffing of individual components before assembly

Stitches Used

The Cuddle Buddy Bunny relies primarily on single crochet (sc) as its foundational stitch. The pattern incorporates:

  • Single crochet in magic loop to begin legs and arms
  • Increases (working multiple stitches into one stitch) to expand rounds
  • Decreases (single crochet two together) to shape and reduce stitch counts
  • Back loop only single crochet for textured ribbed sections on the legs

This limited stitch vocabulary makes the pattern ideal for beginners while the strategic placement of increases and decreases creates the bunny's three-dimensional form.

Materials & Yarn Specifications

The Cuddle Buddy Bunny is designed to work with super chunky weight yarn, which creates a quick, satisfying project and produces a plush, cuddly finished toy.

Yarn Requirements

  • Main body color: Approximately 90 yards of super chunky yarn. The pattern shows Stitch Studio Chateau or Bernat Blanket in "Pebbles" (a neutral gray tone)
  • Tail color: Approximately 5 yards of super chunky yarn. The pattern shows Bernat Blanket in "White"

The use of two contrasting colors adds visual interest and allows crafters to customize their bunny with any color combinations they prefer.

Tools & Notions

  • Crochet hook: Size L (8.0mm) to accommodate the super chunky yarn weight
  • Safety eyes: 12mm black for realistic bunny eyes
  • Safety nose: 18mm pink for a classic bunny nose
  • Finishing needle: Large needle for weaving in ends and assembling components
  • Stitch marker: To track the beginning of each continuous round
  • Fiberfill stuffing: To fill the body, limbs, and head for a soft, squishy texture

Construction Method

The Cuddle Buddy Bunny uses a modular construction approach. Individual components—legs, arms, and ears—are crocheted separately before being attached to the main body during assembly. This method allows for easier shaping and stuffing of each piece and gives crafters control over the final proportions. The pattern emphasizes stuffing only specific sections (such as the paw area of each leg) before seaming pieces closed, ensuring proper weight distribution and a well-defined shape.
