Product Description
With this easy pattern, you can make a scary cute and realistic looking crochet crow or raven. This .pdf crochet pattern is written in standard American crochet terms.
Materials For this crochet raven / crow you’ll need worsted weight yarn (Lètt Lopi) and an E US/3.5 mm crochet hook. You’ll need two colours: Black (1/3 of a 100-yard skein) and grey (not so much). For the eyes I’ve used 9 mm animal eyes. You also need fibrefill to stuff the raven; pipe cleaners for the feet are optional. Lopi colour numbers: 0059 & 0057.
The crochet pattern contains An intro with useful info. List of materials, tools and accessories needed. Brand and colour numbers of the needed yarn. Crowly the Raven Crochet Pattern
What Is Being Made
Crowly is a small amigurumi-style crochet raven toy designed by Son's Popkes (Sonja van der Wijk). This finished doll measures approximately 5 inches (13 centimeters) in sitting height when made with the recommended yarn and tension. The pattern creates a charming decorative or play toy suitable for beginners learning crochet fundamentals.
Crochet Techniques Used
The pattern employs several essential crochet techniques that make it ideal for beginner-level crafters:
- Working in the round: The entire raven is constructed using spiral rounds rather than joining rounds, which creates a seamless, continuous fabric
- Stitch markers: A stitch marker is used to track the beginning of each round, moving it up as new rounds commence to maintain proper stitch count and structure
- Color changes: The pattern incorporates color coding in the written instructions to clearly indicate where yarn color transitions occur, making it easy to follow color changes within specific stitches
- Amigurumi construction: The toy is built using standard amigurumi shaping methods to create a three-dimensional stuffed figure
Crochet Stitches
While the specific stitch abbreviations are written in standard American crochet terminology, the pattern uses fundamental stitches common to amigurumi projects. The exact stitch sequence is detailed within the full pattern instructions.
Materials and Yarn
The pattern is designed for aran weight yarn, with the designer specifically recommending Istex Lètt lopi, a 100% wool fuzzy yarn. The fuzzy texture of the recommended yarn enhances the raven's realistic feathered appearance. The finished size is dependent on both the yarn weight used and the crocheter's individual tension, so experimentation with yarn choices and hook size may adjust the final dimensions of the completed toy.
Pattern Format and Difficulty
This is a beginner-level crochet pattern provided as a downloadable PDF. The instructions are written in standard American crochet terms, making it accessible to crafters new to the craft. The designer recommends reading through the entire pattern before beginning to familiarize yourself with the techniques and color-coding system used throughout.
Design Customization Notes
Because the final size of Crowly depends on yarn weight and individual crochet tension, the designer suggests experimenting with eye sizing despite provided recommendations. This flexibility allows crafters to customize the raven's appearance based on their specific yarn and technique choices.
