What Is Being Made

Convergent is a downloadable knitting pattern for socks designed by Jordan Prouty. These are top-down socks featuring converging ribbing created through strategic increases and decreases. The pattern is offered in three sizes with finished leg circumferences of 7 inches (18 cm), 8 inches (20 cm), and 9 inches (23 cm). The designer notes that while the pattern is written for ankle height, the socks can easily be modified to a taller length based on knitter preference.

Techniques Used

The Convergent socks are knit with fingering weight yarn, specifically 4-ply construction. Yardage requirements are approximately 200 yards (185 meters) for the smallest size, 230 yards (210 meters) for the medium size, and 265 yards (245 meters) for the largest size. The sample shown in the pattern was knit using Queen's Yarn Boutique Kiss Sock yarn in the colorway Wisteria Tapestry, which is composed of 75% Superwash Merino Wool and 25% Nylon, with a yardage of 463 yards per 100 grams.

Needles required are Size 1 (2.25 mm) circular needles measuring 40 inches (100 cm) in length, or the size needed to achieve the specified gauge. Additional tools include 1 stitch marker and a tapestry needle for weaving in ends.

Gauge

The pattern is worked to a gauge of 32 stitches and 40 rows per 4 inches (10 cm) in stockinette stitch. Achieving the correct gauge is essential for obtaining the finished measurements specified in the pattern.
