Product Description
With variation for regular size hat and chemo hat. What a great way to say "let's connect our hearts" with this lovely hat. Uses a size 4 worsted weight yarn, or a size 3 lightweight yarn, and 16 inch circular needle, US # 7. (Yarns used were Caron Kindness and Bernat Baby Soft) The easy graph pattern actually goes very quickly up the hat.
We made one hat in one afternoon, so most knitters can make a hat in about two days or less. If you find you need to "connect" with a special lady , this is a great gift to give that special person! You will want to make more than one, in many different colors too. We like pink, but it looks great in just about any color. A great heartfelt gift!
Connect Our Hearts Hat by Frugal Knitting Haus
Project Overview
The Connect Our Hearts Hat is a one-size-fits-all knitted hat designed by Frugal Knitting Haus. This versatile pattern offers two variations: a standard worsted weight version and a lightweight option suitable as a chemo cap. The hat is crafted to be lightweight and soft while providing adequate warmth, making it practical for everyday wear or as a thoughtful handmade gift for those undergoing medical treatment.
What Is Being Made
This pattern produces a fitted knit hat that measures approximately 9 inches wide across the front for the regular worsted weight version, or 8½ inches wide for the lightweight chemo cap variation. The one-size-fits-all design makes it accessible for various head sizes while maintaining a comfortable fit.
Techniques and Construction
The Connect Our Hearts Hat is constructed using circular knitting in the round, beginning at the bottom cuff of the hat. The pattern uses a cast-on of 100 stitches joined in the round, with careful attention paid to avoiding twisted stitches at the join. Working continuously in circular rows creates a seamless construction that contributes to the hat's comfort and polished finish.
Stitches Used
The pattern employs fundamental knit stitches in a textured stitch pattern. The directions reference a repeating pattern beginning with knit 1 stitches worked in the round, creating the fabric structure of the hat. A row marker is used to track the beginning of each round during construction.
Materials and Yarn
For the Regular Worsted Weight Hat: The pattern calls for 2.4 ounces of Caron Kindness yarn, approximately 120 yards total. This worsted weight yarn comes in 7-ounce skeins containing about 345 yards, allowing crafters to produce multiple hats from a single skein.
For the Chemo Cap Lightweight Version: This variation uses Bernat Baby Soft, a size 3 yarn, requiring approximately 2 ounces or 140 yards. This yarn is available in 5-ounce skeins, making it economical for multiple projects.
Tools and Gauge
The pattern requires a 16-inch circular knitting needle in US size #7, a row marker to track round progression, and a yarn sewing needle for finishing. The gauge for this pattern is 5 stitches and 7 rows per 1 inch, which is important to maintain for proper hat sizing.
Difficulty Level
This project is rated as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for knitters with some experience in circular knitting and basic stitch techniques. The straightforward construction and use of fundamental stitches make it an approachable project for those comfortable with in-the-round knitting methods.
Pattern Variations
The flexibility of this pattern allows for two distinct yarn weight options. Both variations follow the same directional instructions, with the lightweight version producing a slightly narrower hat that is specifically designed to function as a comfortable chemo cap. This adaptability makes the pattern valuable for different purposes and yarn preferences.
