What is Being Made
The Colourblock Fringe Blanket is a crochet throw blanket featuring bold colour blocking with decorative fringe detailing. This design combines multiple yarn colours—Peach Orange, Bright Peach, and Banana Cream—to create striking visual sections throughout the blanket. The pattern is suitable for beginners and produces a reversible finished piece with defined stitch texture.
Crochet Techniques Used
This pattern employs fundamental crochet techniques accessible to beginners. The blanket is constructed using row-by-row construction with turning chains at the end of each row. A key technique involves working cluster stitches into the spaces between previous clusters rather than into individual stitches themselves. This spacing method creates a distinctive 5mm hook reversible appearance and helps define the stitch definition throughout the blanket. The fringe is added as a finishing detail using a piece of card as a fringe-making tool.
Stitches Used
The primary stitch structure relies on cluster stitches as the main design element. Double crochet stitches form the foundation of the pattern, with turning chains connecting rows. The pattern is written in UK crochet terminology, with American crochet equivalents provided for international crocheters. Specific attention is given to the final cluster of each row, which should be worked into the chain-3 from the previous row (except row 2, where the last cluster is worked into the final double crochet of row 1).
Materials and Tools
- Yarn: 3 balls of 100g Aran weight yarn (approximately 300g total). The pattern specifies Paintbox Simply Aran as the yarn used, available in three colours: Peach Orange, Bright Peach, and Banana Cream
- Hook: A 5mm crochet hook
- Additional Tools: Scissors and a piece of card for making fringe
Pattern Customization
The blanket size can be easily adjusted by increasing or decreasing the starting chain to any even number of stitches. This flexibility allows crocheters to create custom dimensions suited to their preferences, whether making a smaller lap blanket or a larger throw. The pattern includes detailed sizing information to guide adjustments.
