The main cosy body is created using two strands of DK yarn together. All there pieces are created using a single strand of DK yarn. All pieces are knitted flat and sewn up afterwards.
I used King Cole cuddles but any fluffy yarn can be substituted.
You will also need: Toy stuffing 6mm eyes Glue (optional) I use it for the eyes. Bell ( optional ) there are instructions for a knitted bobble. 3 small pom-poms or buttons. Red pencil for cheek blush.
This is a festive Christmas tea cosy designed to fit a traditionally shaped 2.5 pint teapot. The pattern features a cheeky elf character, making it an ideal decorative and functional accessory for holiday entertaining. The tea cosy serves both practical purposes—insulating the teapot to keep tea warm—and decorative appeal with its charming seasonal theme.
This is a knitting project created by independent designer Alison Davis. The pattern employs a two-needle knitting technique using different needle sizes and yarn weights to achieve varied textures and details throughout the design. The main body of the cosy is worked using a stranded or doubled yarn technique, while finer details are completed with single-strand knitting for precision.
The pattern incorporates fundamental knitting stitches and techniques including:
The pattern uses DK (double knit) weight yarn, worked in two different ways throughout the project. For the main cosy body, 2 strands of DK yarn are held together simultaneously to create a chunkier fabric. All other pieces—likely including the elf details and embellishments—are worked with a single strand of DK yarn for finer control and definition.
Two pairs of needles are required:
Achieving correct tension is essential for proper fit. The main cosy body, worked on 4.5mm needles with 2 strands of DK yarn in stockinette stitch, should measure 15 stitches and 24 rows over a 10cm square. All other pieces, worked on 3.0mm needles with single-strand DK yarn in stockinette stitch, should measure 28 stitches and 36 rows over a 10cm square.
This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for knitters with some experience beyond absolute beginners. The combination of different needle sizes, yarn weights, and shaping techniques requires familiarity with standard knitting abbreviations and methods.
This original Cosypot design is created by Alison Davis. The pattern is provided as a downloadable PDF file, allowing crafters to access and print the full instructions at their convenience.
