Product Description

Candyland Cap is a special tribute to sugary sweetness. It has an attractive candy cane look topped off with a very appealing fur pom pom. The pattern is easy and can be completed in one weekend. Starting with the Estonian Cast On method, a variation on the longtail cast on in which every other stitch is cast on for a knit stitch, and every other stitch is cast on for a purl stitch. This makes it a very stretchy cast on that works best for 1x1 ribbing. Don’t’ be fooled by the interlocking dual colors look, the entire hat is completed by using only one color at a time. The sections for later decreases are designated early and make this truly an easy project to accomplish. You will need: 1 ball (or 110 yds) of main color Dark Coral color # 308852, and 1 ball (or 71 yds) of coordinating color Pearl color # 100002. 1 Fur Pom Pom and one ½inch button to fasten the Pom Pom on the inside. 6 removable markers.

What Is Being Made

The Candyland Cap is a knitted adult hat designed as a tribute to sugary sweetness, featuring an attractive candy cane striped look complemented by a luxurious fur pom pom on top. This downloadable knitting pattern creates a finished hat with an adult head circumference of 56–60 cm (22–24 inches) and a height from brim to crown of 27 cm (10.5 inches).

Knitting Techniques

The Candyland Cap employs several key techniques that make it accessible despite its visually striking appearance:

  • Estonian Cast On: The pattern begins with the Estonian Cast On method, a variation on the longtail cast on. In this technique, every other stitch is cast on for a knit stitch, while every other stitch is cast on for a purl stitch. This specialized cast on creates an exceptionally stretchy foundation that works best for 1x1 ribbing, providing excellent stretch and recovery for a comfortable fit.
  • Dual-Color Interlocking Effect: Despite the hat's visually striking interlocking dual-color candy cane appearance, the entire hat is completed using only one color at a time. This means knitters work with one color for a section, then switch to the contrasting color for the next section, eliminating the complexity of carrying multiple colors simultaneously.
  • Pre-Designated Decrease Sections: Sections for later decreases are designated early in the pattern, streamlining the construction process and making shaping straightforward for intermediate knitters.

Stitches Used

The pattern utilizes 1x1 ribbing as a foundational stitch pattern, which provides elasticity and structure. The ribbed construction, combined with the stretchy Estonian Cast On, ensures the hat maintains its shape and fits securely on a range of head sizes within the specified circumference range.

Materials

The Candyland Cap is crafted using premium materials:

  • Yarn: String Yarn, Blossom (50% cashmere, 50% silk blend; 50g/1.75oz per ball at 162.5m/177 yards). Main color (MC): 1 ball in Dark Coral (color #308852), requiring approximately 110 yards. Contrasting color (CC): 1 ball in Pearl (color #100002), requiring approximately 71 yards.
  • Pom Pom: 1 String Fur Pom Pom in Caramel, providing a soft, luxurious finishing touch.
  • Yarn Weight: Sport weight yarn, which is ideal for creating a lightweight, drapeable fabric suitable for hats.

Difficulty Level and Project Scope

Rated as an intermediate knitting project, the Candyland Cap can be completed in one weekend, making it an achievable goal for knitters with some experience. The pattern's thoughtful design—with pre-designated decrease sections and single-color-at-a-time construction—simplifies what might otherwise appear to be a complex colorwork project, allowing intermediate knitters to create a visually impressive finished piece without advanced techniques.
