Product Description
This market bag is created in the round by crocheting a spiral, then switching to joined rounds to hide the colour changes. The bottom of this bag was intentionally designed in a solid stitch to be able to carry your belongings without worrying about anything falling out. The mesh panel is in the center of the bag and crocheted in the round in a spiral to be completely seamless. There are no visible seams on this bag, and photo tutorials are included for the colour changes to make it as clear as possible. The straps are added at the end, and you are given 2 strap options: 2 shorter handles or 1 long strap.

Calypso Carry All Crochet Bag
What Is Being Made
The Calypso Carry All is a structured crochet bag designed by Janine Myska and published by Knits 'N Knots in 2019. This is a practical carry-all tote constructed using the bottom-up method, beginning with a flat circular base that transitions into a bag shape without increases. The finished piece features a two-color design with contrasting panels, making it both functional and visually striking for everyday use.
Construction Method and Techniques
This bag employs a distinctive construction approach that begins with crocheting a flat circular foundation, worked from the center outward. Once the circular base is established, the crocheter continues working upward without adding increases, allowing the fabric to naturally form the sides and body of the bag. The majority of the pattern is executed in continuous spiral rounds, which creates a seamless appearance and maintains consistent fabric texture. However, select sections are worked in joined rounds specifically to conceal color transitions between the two yarn colors, ensuring a polished finished appearance on the exterior.
Stitches and Stitch Techniques
While the pattern document provided does not detail the specific stitch abbreviations used throughout, the construction method indicates the use of fundamental crochet stitches worked in both spiral and joined round techniques. The pattern notes emphasize attention to which side faces the crocheter during construction, as the right side becomes the exterior of the finished bag. Stitch markers or scrap yarn are recommended to track the beginning of rounds and maintain pattern accuracy.

Yarn Weight and Fiber Content
The Calypso Carry All is designed for worsted weight yarn, specifically Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton or comparable alternatives. The 100% cotton fiber content makes this an excellent choice for a carry-all bag, as cotton provides durability, breathability, and a structured drape suitable for a functional accessory. The cotton yarn also offers easy care and a crisp finish that enhances the visual definition between the two contrasting colors.
