Product Description
One of my sweet clients sent me a cardigan, and asked if I could make a sash to match it, and this is what I designed for her!
Materials I Used: 215 Yards of Patons Kroy Sock Yarn in Muslin, a G6/4mm Crochet Hook & tapestry needle.
Time Spent: Two hours, 45 minutes
About Sizing: This is plenty long designed for a Women's size Medium. For reference, I am a Women's size Medium with 32" waist/42" hips, and I had plenty of room to spare on the ties, so I would say it would also comfortably fit a size Large, and maybe even a size Extra Large, though it's so easy to customize!

Cabled Cardigan Sash Crochet Pattern
Project Overview
The Cabled Cardigan Sash is a crocheted accessory designed by Alexandra EyeLoveKnots as a coordinating complement to an existing knitted cardigan. This intermediate-level pattern demonstrates how crochet techniques can beautifully coordinate with knitted garments, creating a cohesive layered look. The sash was developed as a custom commission, with the designer creating samples to ensure color and texture harmony with the original cardigan before finalizing the pattern.
What Is Being Made
This pattern creates a decorative sash intended to be worn over or paired with a cardigan. The sash features cable stitch detailing, which provides visual interest and texture while maintaining a lightweight, elegant aesthetic suitable for layering over existing knitwear.
Crochet Techniques and Stitches
The Cabled Cardigan Sash utilizes cable stitches as its primary design element. Cable stitches in crochet create the appearance of twisted or braided texture, mimicking the look of traditional knitted cables. This technique requires working stitches out of order and crossing them over one another to build dimensional, rope-like patterns. The cable stitch work makes this an intermediate-level project, as it demands attention to stitch placement and pattern sequencing to achieve the desired visual effect.
Materials and Yarn Specifications
This pattern calls for sock yarn in a 4-ply weight, which provides a lightweight construction ideal for a sash that layers gracefully without bulk. The designer used Patons Kroy Socks in Muslin as the yarn choice, selected specifically for its ability to coordinate with the existing cardigan. Approximately 215 yards of sock yarn is required to complete the project. The 4-ply weight ensures the finished sash maintains drape and flexibility while the cable stitches create sufficient texture and visual definition.
Design Considerations
The pattern demonstrates thoughtful color matching and yarn selection. The designer created sample swatches in the chosen yarn and stitch pattern, testing them against the original cardigan to ensure visual compatibility before committing to the full project. This approach highlights the importance of yarn weight, color, and stitch texture when designing accessories meant to coordinate with existing garments.
