Product Description
This is a corner to corner crochet version of my Snowman chart, this version includes a c2c picture chart and a colour-coded written version for those who prefer to follow worded instructions. I have also included a "how to corner to corner crochet" guide for those who might not have crocheted an image. The guide also has a border option for those who may want to add a decorative edge to their finished blanket.
The finished blanket will be a different size depending on the yarn you use (using 4ply gives you a lovely baby blanket size)
Sizes - 4ply: 60x70cm, DK: 80x90 cm, Aran: 90x100cm, Chunky: 100x110cm
C2C Snowman Corner to Corner Crochet Blanket
Project Overview
This downloadable crochet pattern from independent designer Instarsia creates a festive snowman-themed blanket using the corner to corner (C2C) crochet technique. The design features a charted snowman motif worked in multiple colors, making it an ideal project for crafters looking to combine colorwork with structured blanket construction. The finished piece serves as both a functional throw and decorative home accent with seasonal appeal.
What You'll Create
A crochet blanket showcasing a detailed snowman picture chart. The blanket is worked using the corner to corner method, which builds the fabric diagonally from one corner to the opposite corner. This technique creates a sturdy, structured blanket with excellent drape and is particularly well-suited for incorporating graphed color patterns and picture charts.
Crochet Techniques
- Corner to Corner (C2C) Crochet: A directional technique that constructs blankets by working diagonal rows, beginning at one corner and expanding outward. This method allows crafters to follow pixel-based charts with precision, making it ideal for creating pictorial designs.
- Color Changes: The pattern incorporates multiple colors—white, black, red, orange, and cloud—requiring strategic color transitions throughout the work to build the snowman image.
- Chart Reading: The pattern uses a numbered grid system (rows 1–82, columns 1–39) to guide stitch placement, enabling crafters to follow the snowman design accurately.
Stitches Used
The C2C technique primarily employs double crochet stitches worked in a structured grid pattern. Each square on the chart corresponds to one double crochet block, allowing the chart to translate directly into fabric. The diagonal construction method creates clean edges and maintains consistent tension throughout the blanket.
Materials
This pattern is designed for DK weight yarn, a medium-weight option that provides good stitch definition while maintaining reasonable project completion time. Crafters will need a crochet hook appropriately sized for DK yarn (typically sizes H/8 or I/9 depending on personal tension) and yarn in the following colors: white, black, red, orange, and cloud. The chart indicates yardage requirements: 959 yards total, with 12 yards in cloud, 303 yards in orange, 405 yards in red, and 37 yards in black, with the remainder in white.
Difficulty Level
Rated as intermediate, this project suits crafters with foundational crochet knowledge who are comfortable with color changes, reading charts, and maintaining consistent tension. While the C2C technique itself is straightforward, managing multiple colors and following a detailed 82-row, 39-column chart requires focus and chart-reading proficiency.
Pattern Format
This is a downloadable PDF pattern provided by designer EJHeywood through Instarsia. The pattern includes a detailed picture chart with color coding, making it accessible for both crochet and knitting applications. The designer notes that Instarsia charts are interchangeable and can be adapted for various fiber crafts beyond corner to corner crochet.
