Product Description

This is a corner to corner crochet version of my Deer Silhouette chart, this version includes a c2c picture chart and a colour-coded written version for those who prefer to follow worded instructions. I have also included a "how to corner to corner crochet" guide for those who might not have crocheted an image. The guide also has a border option for those who may want to add a decorative edge to their finished blanket.

The finished blanket will be a different size depending on the yarn you use (using 4ply gives you a lovely baby blanket size)

C2C - Deer Silhouette - Corner to Corner Blanket

Project Overview

This is a corner to corner (C2C) crochet blanket featuring a striking deer silhouette design. The pattern uses a picture chart system that allows crafters to build the blanket progressively from one corner, creating the detailed silhouette as they work. Designed by Instarsia, this downloadable PDF provides a versatile pattern suitable for intermediate-level crocheters seeking a graphical, structured project.

What is Being Made

A decorative crochet blanket or throw with a prominent deer silhouette as the focal point. The finished piece measures 82 stitches by 82 rows according to the chart dimensions, creating a substantial blanket suitable for draping over furniture or using as a cozy throw. The design features a silhouetted deer against a contrasting background, combining visual interest with the meditative rhythm of corner-to-corner construction.

Techniques Used

  • Corner to Corner (C2C) Crochet: The primary construction method, where the blanket is worked diagonally from one corner to the opposite corner, building in a stair-step pattern. This technique creates a structured, grid-based fabric that naturally follows the picture chart.
  • Picture Chart Reading: Crafters follow a numbered grid chart to determine stitch placement and color changes, translating the visual design into crochet stitches row by row.
  • Color Work: The pattern incorporates color changes to render the deer silhouette, with the chart indicating specific color placement throughout the project.

Stitches Used

While the specific stitch abbreviations are not detailed in the provided chart excerpt, corner-to-corner crochet typically employs double crochet stitches as the foundation stitch, worked in a diagonal progression. The chart system guides placement of these stitches to create the pixelated silhouette effect characteristic of C2C designs.

Materials

  • Yarn Weight: DK (double knit) weight yarn, providing a balanced fabric weight suitable for blankets—not too heavy, not too delicate.
  • Yarn Colors: The pattern uses at least two colors: Green and Walnut, as indicated on the chart, allowing the deer silhouette to stand out against the background.
  • Crochet Hook: An appropriately sized hook for DK weight yarn (typically US size H/8 or I/9), though specific hook size recommendations should be verified in the full pattern document.

Difficulty Level

Rated as intermediate, this project suits crocheters with foundational skills who are comfortable reading charts and managing color changes. The corner-to-corner technique is methodical and forgiving, making it accessible to those ready to move beyond basic projects while still offering a satisfying challenge.
