Bruce the Bagpipe Player Amigurumi Crochet Pattern
What is Being Made
Bruce the Bagpipe Player is a stuffed amigurumi toy designed by Laura Wilson. This crochet pattern creates a three-dimensional character figure featuring a bagpipe player, combining multiple crocheted pieces that are assembled and sewn together to form the finished toy.
Craft and Primary Technique
This project uses crochet as the primary construction method. Amigurumi is a Japanese crochet technique that creates small, stuffed fabric sculptures through tight stitching in the round. The pattern is classified as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for crocheters with foundational skills who are ready to tackle multi-piece assembly and shaping techniques.
Stitches and Construction Methods
The pattern employs fundamental amigurumi stitching techniques to build the toy's structure. Key methods include:
- Single crochet (sc) - the primary stitch used throughout the pattern for creating dense, tight fabric
- Increases (inc) - used to expand rounds and create shaping in the three-dimensional form
- Magic ring (mr) - the starting technique for beginning rounds in the center
- Working in continuous rounds to build the toy's body pieces
- Sewing and assembly of completed pieces using a sewing needle
The pattern includes specific guidance for stuffing techniques, recommending the use of a crochet hook end to push filling material into small sections. Assembly involves sewing pieces together by working through loops on the surface of stitches for secure attachment.

Yarn: DK weight yarn is used throughout the project. The pattern specifies Hayfield Bonus DK in seven colors: Peaches (888), Fox (779), Bottle Green (839), White (961), Black (965), Claret (841), and Navy (971). This variety of colors allows for detailed color work on different sections of the character.

I would order from you again
It was a bit of a challenge but it worked up good. Some of the instructions were a bit vague but I'm a long time crocheter so was able to work it out. I chose to do a different nose and to not put rhe cheeks on.
Love Bruce the piper. Would highly recommend
