What is Being Made

Berlin is a pair of beginner-friendly knitted socks designed by Stefanie Bold. These socks feature a creative play on texture using purled and knitted fabric combined with twisted stitches to create visual dimension. The design incorporates a mirrored pattern between the right and left sock, which keeps the knitting process engaging when working the second sock. The finished socks are sized to fit a foot circumference of 7 inches (17.5 cm) with adjustable length.

Knitting Techniques and Construction

Berlin socks are worked in the round using one of three methods: double pointed needles, a single circular needle with the magic loop technique, or two circular needles. The pattern is not suited for the two-at-a-time method because stitches are moved between needles during construction. Knitters should adjust their needle size to obtain the correct gauge, as the specified gauge is tighter than standard sock knitting.

Materials and Gauge

Sizing and Fit

The pattern is available in one size designed to fit a foot circumference of 8 to 8.625 inches (20.5 to 22 cm) with 10 to 15 percent negative ease. The finished foot circumference measures 7 inches (17.5 cm), and the sock length is adjustable to suit individual preferences.
