Product Description

The Beginners Box Stitch Infinity Scarf is easy to loom knit and gives you a beautiful and warm accessory that makes it look like you've been loom knitting for years. This yummy textured scarf is knit in the round so there are no seams to sew. The only stitches used are u-knit and purl, and the 4-row pattern is super easy to memorize and knit. The are also links to my You Tube channel to help the beginner visualize the cast on and bind off techniques. This infinity scarf can be knit on any 3/8" gauge loom set up to knit 208 pegs in the round. Knitting Board's Flexee Loom Links Skinny or Knitting Board's Adjustable Multi-Knit Loom works perfectly for this pattern. This project uses 370 yards of a worsted weight [4] yarn. Caron Cakes yarn in the Boston Cream colorway was used in the sample.

This pattern is suitable for a beginner loom knitter.

What is Being Made

This loom knit pattern creates a finished infinity scarf measuring 52 inches in circumference by 9 inches tall. An infinity scarf is a continuous loop design that can be worn wrapped around the neck multiple times or styled in various ways. This beginner-friendly pattern uses the box stitch technique, making it an excellent introduction to loom knitting for crafters new to the fiber arts.

Loom Knitting Technique and Equipment

This pattern is designed for loom knitting, a fiber craft that uses a specialized loom instead of traditional needles. The project requires a 3/8" gauge loom set to knit 208 pegs in the round. The pattern specifies using looms such as Knitting Board's Flexee Loom Links Skinny or Knitting Board's Adjustable Multi-Knit Loom. Loom knitting is often considered more accessible than needle knitting for beginners because the pegs hold stitches securely, reducing the risk of dropped stitches and making tension easier to manage.

Stitches and Stitch Techniques

The primary stitch used in this pattern is the box stitch, which creates a textured, visually interesting fabric. The pattern uses the following stitch abbreviations:

  • p = purl stitch
  • u = u-knit stitch

The pattern also includes a specialized finishing technique called the Stretchy Yarn Over Bind Off (all u-knit version). This bind-off method is worked in pairs of pegs and creates an elastic edge that maintains the scarf's stretch and prevents the bound-off edge from becoming too tight. The bind-off process involves u-knitting pegs, moving loops between adjacent pegs, and lifting bottom loops to secure each stitch before moving to the next pair of pegs. This technique ensures a professional finish that allows the infinity scarf to maintain its intended circumference and drape.

Materials and Yarn

This pattern requires 370 yards of worsted weight yarn (weight category 4). Worsted weight yarn is a medium thickness that works up relatively quickly while still creating a fabric with good structure and drape. The sample scarf was created using Caron Cakes yarn in the Boston Cream colorway, a variegated yarn that adds visual interest to the finished piece. The pattern also calls for a loom with the specifications mentioned above.

Difficulty Level

This pattern is rated as beginner level, making it suitable for crafters who are new to loom knitting or fiber arts in general. The box stitch and the techniques involved are foundational skills that build confidence and understanding of how loom knitting works.
