Product Description
In the middle of California, there is a stunning lake called Lake Aloha. It is said to be one of the most beautiful places in the Sierra Nevada mountain range. Most definitely a greeting of warmth and beauty, Lake Aloha is clear and blue with tiny islands dotting its surface along with alpine trees and surrounded by white granite peaks.
This is a pattern for a semi circular shawl. It is worked from the top down flat and features shining beaded motif (optional) over natural lacy shapes. Aloha Tahoe! was designed specifically for 2 skeins of sock weight yarn from Elevate Fibers, but includes a yarn suggestion available in the Love Knitting shop. If you choose the Elevate Fibers yarn, know a portion of your purchase goes to National Parks in the US.
Aloha Tahoe! Knit Shawl Pattern by bunnymuff - Mona Zillah
What is Being Made
Aloha Tahoe! is a downloadable knitting pattern for a triangular shawl with a generous wingspan. This intermediate-level design creates a finished piece measuring approximately 59 inches (150cm) across the wingspan and 24 inches (61cm) in depth, making it an elegant wrap suitable for layering or draping.
Yarn and Materials
This pattern is designed for fingering weight yarn (4-ply), with approximately 640 to 766 yards (585 to 700 meters) of yarn required across 2 skeins. The designer recommends two specific yarn options:
- Silky Merino by Elevate Fiber Arts - a fingering weight blend containing 75% Merino and 25% Silk, with 400 yards (366 meters) per 100 grams
- Jilly by Dream in Color - a 100% Merino fingering weight yarn, also offering 400 yards (366 meters) per 100 grams
The pattern requires 3.5mm (US size 4) circular needles measuring 30 inches (76cm) in length. Additional tools include beads for embellishment, as the pattern incorporates bead placement within stitches.
Gauge and Techniques
The recommended gauge is 23 stitches by 30 rows over 4 inches (10cm) when worked in stockinette stitch on 3.5mm needles. However, the designer notes that gauge is not critical for this project, allowing for flexibility in tension and needle adjustments based on personal preference.
Stitches and Construction
The pattern employs fundamental knitting techniques including stockinette stitch as the primary fabric. The design incorporates bead placement within stitches, indicated by the abbreviation B (Place bead and work stitch) throughout the pattern. Construction involves binding off, with the pattern specifying the use of JSSBO (Japanese Short Rows Bind Off) or similar finishing techniques to create a polished edge.
