Product Description
This sassy tunic is knitted in a bulky weight yarn for extra core warmth. Seriously, this is so warm, I’m glad it has short sleeves!
The ribbing for the sleeves are worked first and placed onto holders. The body is knit in the round from the bottom up, working the pocket seamlessly as you knit. At the underarms the body is joined to the sleeve ribbing and the yoke is worked in the round to the neck, while working set-in sleeve shaping. There are some short rows worked at the tops of the sleeve caps, then the shoulders are joined with a three needle bind off.
**Gauge:**11 sts and 16 rnds = 4" (10 cm) in St st with larger needles.
Allagash Pullover by Kristen TenDyke
What Is Being Made
The Allagash is a sassy pullover sweater designed by Kristen TenDyke and knitted in chunky weight yarn. This garment features short sleeves and is engineered for exceptional core warmth, making it an ideal choice for cold-weather layering. The pullover is available in seven different sizes, ranging from 30 inches to 56¼ inches in bust circumference, accommodating a wide range of body measurements from approximately 76 centimeters to 143 centimeters.
Construction Techniques
The Allagash is worked from the bottom up, utilizing seamless construction methods throughout the garment. This bottom-up approach allows for ease of fitting and adjustment as the knitter progresses. The design incorporates two notable technical elements: pocket construction and set-in sleeve shaping, both executed seamlessly to create a polished, professional finish without the need for seaming.
Stitches and Finishing Details
The pattern employs simple ribbing at the neckline as the final finishing touch, providing both structural integrity and a refined aesthetic detail. The ribbed neckline adds elasticity and helps the sweater maintain its shape around the neck opening. The seamless construction throughout the body and sleeves eliminates the need for finishing seams, streamlining the knitting process.
Materials and Gauge
The Allagash is designed to be knitted in chunky weight yarn. The sample shown uses Quince & Co. Puffin, a 100% American wool yarn, in the Nasturtium colorway. Each 100-gram ball yields approximately 112 yards (102 meters). Depending on the chosen size, the pattern requires between 4 and 8 skeins, totaling approximately 448 to 820 yards of yarn.
Knitting needles required include:
- Size US 11 (8 mm): 16-inch and 24-inch circular needles, plus a set of 4 or 5 double-pointed needles (dpn)
- Size US 13 (9 mm): 24-inch and 40-inch circular needles
Knitters should adjust needle sizes as necessary to obtain the correct gauge for their specific yarn choice. Additional notions include stitch markers, stitch holders or waste yarn, and cable needles.
Difficulty Level
This pattern is rated as advanced, reflecting the technical skills required to successfully execute the seamless construction, set-in sleeves, and pocket shaping. Knitters should have solid experience with circular needle techniques, stitch markers, and intermediate shaping before attempting this design.
