Product Description
Alice The 3rd is a colour-block knitted pillow patter, own design by Blue Balloon Atelier. The pattern looks great on it’s own but also goes well with other Alice designs, as they complement each other really well.
The pattern is bold enough to make a statement in your home, but easy enough to knit the whole pillowcase in a day or two, while sipping your favourite tea.
Because of chunky yarn and this bold pattern even a begginer can try this pattern, in my opinion.
Deramores Chunky Acrylic was used to create this sample, but any chunky yarn [acrylic or wool, or combination with wool preferably], suitable for 7-9mm knitting needles, can be used.

Project Overview
Alice the 3rd is a modern and quirky knitted pillow cover design created by independent designer Kasia Ancuta of Blue Balloon Atelier. This downloadable PDF pattern produces a finished cushion cover measuring approximately 40x40cm (16x16 inches), making it suitable for standard throw pillows and decorative home furnishings.
Craft and Technique
This project is executed entirely through knitting, a fundamental textile craft that creates fabric by interlocking loops of yarn using two needles. The knitting technique allows for the creation of structured, durable fabric ideal for home décor items like pillow covers. The pattern is designed at an intermediate difficulty level, indicating it requires foundational knitting knowledge and comfort with basic stitches and shaping techniques.
Materials and Tools
The pattern calls for chunky to super chunky weight yarn, which creates quick, visually striking results due to the larger yarn thickness. The original pattern was developed using Deramores Studio Chunky Acrylic yarn. The designer specifies using 7mm knitting needles for this project. While the yarn manufacturer recommends 9mm needles, the pattern notes that 7mm needles produce a stronger, firmer final product that is preferable for pillowcase construction, ensuring durability and structure in the finished cushion cover.
Design Characteristics
As part of Blue Balloon Atelier's collection of modern and quirky designs, Alice the 3rd reflects contemporary aesthetic sensibilities while maintaining the cozy, handmade appeal of knitted home goods. The use of chunky yarn weight combined with intermediate-level knitting creates a project that balances accessibility with visual impact.
