Product Description

AEON Choker pattern

I have written this pattern very simply and in a straighforward way.

I used Alize Diva Stretch yarn, which is a stretchy/elastic yarn. I think it comes out really well with cotton yarn too though! Please share in the projects tab I'd love to see what you create!

Available in any size, you will be guided on how to make your own personal measurements. It also has strings at the back to make it adjustable.

Thank you <3

AEON Choker by Alethea Handmade

What Is Being Made

The AEON Choker is a delicate crocheted necklace designed to sit snugly around the neck. This adjustable jewelry piece combines lightweight crochet fabric with optional pendant embellishment, making it a versatile accessory suitable for various necklines and personal style preferences. The choker can be customized to fit any neck size during the construction process.

Craft and Technique Overview

This project uses crochet as the primary construction method, making it an ideal beginner-friendly jewelry design. Crochet is a fiber arts technique that uses a single hook to create interlocking loops of yarn, building fabric from a foundation chain. For jewelry applications like this choker, crochet offers flexibility, drape, and the ability to create delicate, wearable pieces with minimal materials and equipment.

Stitches Used

The AEON Choker employs fundamental crochet stitches appropriate for beginners:

  • Chain (Ch): The foundation stitch that begins the project and creates the base length around the neck
  • Single Crochet (Sc): A basic short stitch used to build the body of the choker with density and structure
  • Double Crochet (Dc): A taller stitch incorporated into the pattern for textural variation
  • Slip Stitch (Sl): Used for joining and finishing details

The pattern also utilizes spacing techniques, including chain spaces and strategic skipping of stitches to create openwork sections and visual interest in the finished piece.

Materials and Tools

Yarn: The pattern calls for Alize Diva Stretch, a super fine weight yarn classified as light fingering. This yarn weight is ideal for jewelry because it creates delicate, flexible fabric that drapes beautifully against the skin. The project requires only 20-30 yards (18-27 meters) of yarn, making it an economical choice for crafters.

Hook and Tools: A 2.5mm crochet hook is used with the specified yarn to achieve the correct gauge and fabric density. Scissors are needed for finishing yarn ends.

Optional Embellishment: The pattern accommodates an optional pendant—the example shown uses a moonstone pendant—which can be threaded through the yarn before beginning construction for integrated design.

Gauge and Sizing

The pattern specifies a gauge of 1 inch equaling 7 stitches. However, because this is jewelry rather than a fitted garment, exact gauge adherence is less critical than in other crochet projects. The adjustable nature of the design allows crafters to measure as they work, ensuring a perfect fit for any neck size. The key is maintaining consistency with the light fingering yarn weight specified.

Construction Overview

The choker begins with a foundation chain worked to the desired length around the neck, leaving approximately 1 inch (2-3 cm) of space between the chain ends. The crocheter then works single crochet rows to build the body, creating a structured base. Subsequent rows introduce chain spaces and stitch skipping to develop an openwork pattern that adds visual dimension while maintaining the lightweight quality essential for wearable jewelry.

Difficulty Level

Rated as a beginner project, the AEON Choker is accessible to new crocheters. It uses only basic stitches and straightforward construction techniques, making it an excellent introduction to crochet jewelry design while producing a polished, professional-looking finished piece.
