Adorn Gift Bags by Helen Stewart
What Is Being Made
Adorn Gift Bags is a collection of three decorative knitted gift bags designed for presenting small gifts. These quick-to-knit bags are ideal for upcycling leftover yarn and serve as both functional packaging and a treasured keepsake. The designs offer versatility with multiple size options and styling choices, making them suitable for various gift sizes and occasions.
Project Overview
This knitting pattern features two distinct bag styles with different decorative finishes. Style A presents a simple ribbed lace top available in two sizes (Small and Medium), while Style B showcases an eyelet detail around the top embellished with a beaded star for added sparkle. Both styles are knit in the round, allowing for easy customization to accommodate different gift dimensions. The designer emphasizes sustainability by encouraging crafters to use yarn scraps, reducing waste while creating heirloom-quality gift wrapping.
Knitting Techniques and Stitches
The bags employ several intermediate-level knitting techniques appropriate for crafters with foundational skills. Key techniques include:
- Circular knitting: Both bag styles are constructed in the round, creating seamless cylindrical forms ideal for gift bag construction
- Ribbed lace: Style A features a ribbed lace top, combining knit and purl stitches with yarn overs to create an open, decorative finish
- Eyelet detail: Style B incorporates eyelet stitches around the top opening, creating small decorative holes that enhance the visual appeal
- Beadwork integration: Style B includes beaded embellishment, specifically a beaded star accent, adding dimensional sparkle to the finished bag
