The collection is aimed at intermediate knitters and includes a Lace Hat, Lace Scarf, Lace Wristwarmers, Mock Cable Hat, Mock Cable Snood, and Mock Cable Wristwarmers. About Stylecraft Grace Aran Yarn

All six designs are worked in Stylecraft Grace Aran, a yarn sold in 100g balls at aran weight. The collection showcases a beautiful range of shades from the Grace Aran palette, including:

  • Petals 2150 – used for the Lace Hat
  • Oyster 2156 – used for the Lace Scarf
  • Hibiscus 2151 – used for the Lace Wristwarmers
  • Forest 2154, Ocean 2157, and Hip 2152 – used together for the Mock Cable Hat
  • Hip 2152 – used for the Mock Cable Snood
  • Ocean 2157 – used for the Mock Cable Wristwarmers

The variety of shades available means each design can be knitted as shown or easily personalised by choosing alternative colourways from the Grace Aran range.

Needles and Notions Required

To complete the designs in this collection, knitters will need:

  • 4mm (UK 8 / USA 6) knitting needles – used for ribbed cast-on sections and cuffs
  • 5mm (UK 6 / USA 8) knitting needles – used for the main body of each design
  • Stitch markers – essential for tracking lace panel placement accurately

Tension

The stated tension for all designs is 18 stitches and 24 rows to 10cm (4 inches) measured over stocking stitch using 5mm needles. Achieving the correct tension is particularly important for accessories such as hats and wristwarmers, where fit and finished dimensions are critical. The lace panel of 10 stitches measures 6.5cm (2½ inches) wide, giving knitters an additional reference point when checking their gauge.

The Lace Designs

Lace Hat

The Lace Hat is knitted in Stylecraft Grace Aran shade Petals 2150 and requires 1 x 100g ball. It is worked to a finished size of 51cm (20 inches) around the head and 21cm (8¼ inches) long. The hat is a one-size design suitable for most adults.

Construction begins with a k1, p1 ribbed brim worked on 4mm needles, which provides a neat, stretchy edge that sits comfortably against the head. After the rib section, stitches are increased using a make one (M1) increase before switching to 5mm needles for the main body. The focal point of the hat is a central 10-stitch lace panel, which is framed on either side by stocking stitch. Stitch markers are placed to define the lace panel clearly throughout the knitting.

The lace pattern itself uses a combination of yarn overs (yfwd), k2tog (right-leaning decreases), sl1-k1-psso (left-leaning decreases), and a TwR (twist right) cable-style stitch, creating an elegant, open lace motif with a subtle twist detail at its centre. Double yarn overs appear in certain rows, with the resulting loops worked
