1:12th Scale Children's Play Clothes by Frances Powell
What is Being Made
This downloadable knitting pattern from Buttercup Miniatures creates a complete wardrobe of children's play clothes designed to fit 4-inch (10 cm) tall dolls house dolls at 1:12th scale. The pattern comprises four separate garments: jogging pants, a sweater, dungarees, and a short-sleeved jumper with interchangeable sleeves, allowing for multiple outfit combinations from a single pattern.
Skill Level and Suitability
Rated as intermediate difficulty, this pattern is specifically noted as not suitable as a first project in miniature knitting. The design incorporates shaping techniques and short rows, requiring knitters to have foundational experience with miniature-scale construction before attempting this project.
Knitting Techniques and Stitches
The pattern employs several intermediate knitting techniques essential for successful miniature garment construction:
- Shaping – Strategic decreases and increases to create fitted garment silhouettes at miniature scale
- Short rows – Advanced technique used to add depth and dimension to specific garment sections without increasing overall row count
- Stitch holders – Used to manage live stitches during garment assembly and sleeve attachment
- Interchangeable sleeves – Allows the short-sleeved jumper sleeves to be swapped between garments for design versatility
Materials Required
This pattern requires precision tools and specialty yarns appropriate for 1:12th scale miniature knitting:
- Needles: Size 19 (1.00 mm/US size 5/0) knitting needles – extremely fine needles necessary for working at miniature scale
- Yarn: 28 yards (25 metres) of 1-ply wool in each of two colours – cobweb weight yarn provides the delicate thickness required for proportionate miniature garments
- Notions: 3 stitch holders for managing garment sections during construction
