Product Description

Wanderling is worked seamlessly in St st from the top down using raglan increases on both sides of a cute mock cable to shape the yoke. An additional mock cable panel runs down the back for some knitting and (of course!) visual interest. Button band and buttonhole band are worked in garter stitch simultaneously with the yoke and the body. After separating the sleeves and the body, the slightly a-shaped body is first worked back and forth to the end of the button placket, then the body is joined to work in the round down to the hem. Then the sleeves were placed back on the needles and worked top down in St st in the round to end. Instructions for optional pockets are given.

Wanderling Sweater by Isabell Kraemer

What is Being Made

Wanderling is a handknit sweater design created by independent designer Isabell Kraemer. This downloadable knitting pattern produces a finished garment suitable for intermediate-level knitters. The sweater is available in seven different sizes, making it an adaptable design for various body measurements and fit preferences.

Yarn Requirements

The primary yarn used in Wanderling is Finkhof Merinowolle dünn, a heavy sport weight yarn with yardage of 300 meters per 100 grams. Depending on the size selected, the pattern requires approximately 3 to 5 skeins of this yarn, translating to 865 to 1,390 meters (943 to 1,515 yards) total. The sample shown is knitted in light grey. For optional pocket linings, the pattern calls for approximately 65 meters of light fingering weight yarn, such as Holst Garn supersoft uld, which provides 575 meters per 100 grams.

Needles and Tools

Wanderling requires multiple needle sizes to accommodate different sections of the garment:

  • 3.5 mm (US 4) circular needles, 80 cm (32 inches) long for knitting the main body
  • 3.5 mm (US 4) double-pointed needles (DPNs) or longer circular needles using the magic loop method for sleeve construction
  • 3.0 mm (US 2½) circular needles, 80 cm (32 inches) long for the body hem
  • 3.0 mm (US 2½) double-pointed needles (DPNs) or longer circular needles for sleeve hems
  • 2.5 mm (US 1½) double-pointed needles (DPNs) or longer circular needles for pocket construction

Knitting Techniques

This intermediate-level sweater incorporates several key knitting techniques. The pattern utilizes top-down construction with circular needles, allowing knitters to try on the garment as it progresses. The design includes seamless sleeve cap shaping, which eliminates the need for seaming and creates a smooth, professional finish. The pattern also features optional pocket linings, adding functional detail to the finished sweater. Knitters have the flexibility to use either double-pointed needles or the magic loop method for small circumference sections like sleeves and pockets.

Stitches and Stitch Work

While specific stitch patterns are not detailed in the available pattern excerpt, Wanderling employs fundamental knitting stitches appropriate for a heavy sport weight yarn. The construction method suggests the use of stockinette stitch as the primary fabric base, combined with ribbing for the hems to create elasticity and structure at the edges. The pocket linings and various hem sections utilize ribbed stitchwork to provide definition and prevent rolling.

Pattern Details and Sizing

Wanderling is offered in seven graduated sizes, each with specific yardage requirements ranging from the smallest at 865 meters to the largest at 1,390 meters. This range accommodates diverse fit preferences and body types. The pattern is presented as a downloadable PDF format, making it accessible for immediate use upon purchase. The design includes optional elements such as pocket linings, allowing knitters to customize their finished garment based on personal preference and available materials.

Designer Information

Wanderling is an original design by Isabell Kraemergrasflecken. The pattern was created in 2014 and is offered for unlimited personal use. This independent designer pattern reflects thoughtful construction and attention to fit across multiple sizes.

Excellent customer experience all round. Thumbs up from me!!

I've finished knitting it already. Great pattern even for a not massively experienced knitter like myself.
