Product Description
Mycroft is worked seamlessly from the top down. First some short rows are worked back and forth to create a higher back neck and then the raglan yoke is worked top down to sleeve separation. Then the body is worked in rounds down to the hem. Sleeves are worked top down to the cuffs last. No finishing required. Broken Rib pattern accentuates the upper yoke and the lower body as well as the sleeve cuffs.

Mycroft Sweater by Isabell Kraemer
What is Being Made
Mycroft is a handknit sweater design created by Isabell Kraemer. This downloadable knitting pattern produces a finished garment suitable for intermediate-level knitters. The sweater is available in multiple sizes to accommodate different measurements and fit preferences.
Knitting Techniques Used
The Mycroft pattern incorporates several essential knitting techniques that intermediate crafters will recognize and employ throughout the project:
- Double Stitch Resolution: The pattern uses a specialized technique for managing double stitches (DS). Knitters work through both legs of a double stitch by knitting through both legs on right-side (RS) rows, abbreviated as kDS, or purling through both legs on wrong-side (WS) rows, abbreviated as pDS. This method treats double stitches as single stitches for cleaner fabric construction.
- Backwards Loop Cast-On: The pattern employs the backwards loop cast-on method to begin the project, a fundamental technique that creates a flexible edge suitable for sweater construction.
- Circular Knitting: The design uses circular needles for constructing the body and sleeves, allowing for seamless or minimal-seam construction depending on the knitter's preference and the pattern's specifications.
- Magic Loop Method: For smaller circumferences, knitters may use the magic loop technique with longer circular needles as an alternative to double-pointed needles (DPNs).
Stitches and Abbreviations
The Mycroft pattern uses standard knitting abbreviations and stitch terminology, including:
- beg: begin(ning)
- BO: bind off
- BOR: beginning of the round
- kDS: knit through both legs of double stitch
- pDS: purl through both legs of double stitch

Yarn Specifications: Mycroft is designed for worsted weight yarn. The pattern is shown worked in Stolen Stitches NUA worsted yarn in the colorway Bare Necessities. Each skein contains 109 yards (100 meters) and weighs 50 grams. Yardage requirements vary by size, ranging from approximately 865 yards (791 meters) for the smallest size up to 1,421 yards (1,299 meters) for the largest size. Knitters will need between 8 and 13 skeins depending on their chosen size.
Needle Requirements: The pattern calls for US 6 (4 mm) circular needles in two lengths: a 16-inch (40 cm) needle and a 32-inch (80 cm) needle for constructing the body and sleeves. Double-pointed needles (DPNs) are also listed as an option, or knitters may substitute longer circular needles to work the magic loop method as an alternative technique.
