This unisex sweater starts with a neutral shade that forms the background for an explosion of bright contrasting colors, a salute to a true Icelandic Flugeldar. Flugeldar or fireworks burst around the yoke, while shaping and construction stay true (well mostly true, if you don’t count the back short row shaping!) to traditional Icelandic lopapeysas that are popular worldwide today.
The body and sleeves of this pullover are knit in the round from the bottom up to the underarms, and then are joined to work the yoke in one piece. Short row shaping is used to create a more comfortable fit in the back after the yoke is joined in round. Stranded colorwork technique is used for the yoke motifs, with some rounds carrying up to three strands at the same time.
