Who This Pattern Is For
Rated as a beginner level project, the Flower Field pattern is an excellent introduction to core hand embroidery techniques. Techniques Used
The Flower Field pattern introduces and reinforces three fundamental embroidery stitches, each used purposefully across the different flower designs within the composition:
- Stem Stitch – Used to embroider the stems of the plants, this classic outline stitch creates a smooth, rope-like line that is perfect for curved botanical elements. It is worked in dark green shades (#00879 and #00877) and turquoise (#00187) depending on the flower.
- Satin Stitch – Used to fill petals and leaves with smooth, solid coverage. The pattern instructs stitchers to work over each petal multiple times in some flowers to build up a fluffy, textured appearance. Satin stitch is also used for leaves on the turquoise-stemmed flower.
- French Knots – A decorative knotted stitch used extensively in this design, particularly for the top area of one of the larger flowers. French knots add wonderful texture and dimension. The pattern encourages mixing thread colors — for example, combining 2 strands of yellow (#00297) with 1 strand of light yellow (#00292) — to create subtle shading across a large area filled entirely with French knots.
The Individual Flower Designs
The Flower Field composition features at least six distinct flower designs, each with its own color palette and stitch combination, giving the overall piece variety and visual interest.
Flower 1
The stem is worked in dark green (#00879) using stem stitch. The petals are embroidered with short satin stitches in light pink (#00031) and dark pink (#00035). The pattern encourages color mixing — some petals can be entirely light pink, some entirely dark pink, and others a combination of both, giving the stitcher creative freedom.
Flower 2
Details from the PDF indicate this flower continues the botanical theme of the composition, building on the color palette established in Flower 1 with additional Anchor thread colors from the specified range
