Block Construction – The Chain Block

The primary block used throughout the Playtime quilt is known as the Chain Block, constructed using the classic Nine-Patch method. How the Chain Block Is Made

• Each block is assembled from 5 print 1½" squares and 4 Riley White Solid 1½" squares.

• Because each block uses a different print fabric, no two blocks in the finished quilt are identical, creating a charming scrappy effect across the entire quilt top.

Sashing Details

The quilt uses sashing rectangles cut from the Riley White Solid fabric to frame and separate the individual blocks. Quilters will need to:

• Cut 11 strips at 1½" x WOF (width of fabric) from the Riley White Solid.
• Sub-cut those strips into 71 rectangles measuring 1½" x 5½" for use as sashing between blocks.
