Washcloth 8 – Series 2 by Seona Roberts
What Is Being Made
Washcloth 8 – Series 2 is a beginner-friendly crochet washcloth pattern designed by Seona Roberts as part of a series focused on exploring different border techniques. This downloadable PDF pattern emphasizes adaptable border designs that work well across various projects without requiring precise stitch counts, making it ideal for crafters learning border construction.
Crochet Techniques and Approach
The pattern centers on border techniques that are intentionally flexible and forgiving for beginners. The design philosophy prioritizes borders that can be easily adapted to different projects and adjusted if stitch counts vary slightly from the pattern. This approach makes the washcloth an excellent learning project for understanding how borders can be modified and customized. The pattern includes specific guidance for managing stitch counts along the sides, with instructions to aim for multiples of 3 and alternative methods if your count falls short of expectations.
Stitches Used
The pattern employs fundamental crochet stitches suitable for beginner crafters:
- Slip Stitch (ss) – Used for joining rounds and creating seamless transitions
- Chain (ch) – The foundation stitch for building the base of the pattern
- Single Crochet (sc) – A basic stitch that creates a tight, dense fabric
- Double Crochet (dc) – A taller stitch that adds texture and drape
- Treble (tr) – An even taller stitch for creating varied texture in borders
Materials and Tools
The washcloth pattern calls for 100% cotton yarn in 10ply / worsted / aran weight. The designer uses Knit Picks Dishie, a popular choice for dishcloths and washcloths due to its durability and absorbency. A 5mm crochet hook is specified for working with this yarn weight. You will also need a needle for weaving in ends to finish your project neatly.
