Vishuddha Socks by N.kaBia
What Is Being Made
Vishuddha is a downloadable knitting pattern for a pair of socks designed by N.kaBia. This intermediate-level project creates fitted socks in multiple European sizes (EU 36/37, 38/39, 40/41, 42/43, and 44/45), featuring colorwork and cable stitch details worked in the round using double-pointed needles.
Craft and Technique
The Vishuddha socks are created using knitting techniques worked in the round on double-pointed needles (DPNs). The pattern employs stranded colorwork, alternating between two solid yarn colors (Color A and Color B) on every round after the initial ribbed cuff. The design incorporates cable stitches in the leg section, which are manipulated using a cable needle to create twisted, textured patterns. The construction begins with a cast-on, moves through a ribbed cuff section, and transitions into the leg with integrated colorwork and cable details before progressing to the foot and finishing.
Stitches Used
- Ribbing (knit 2, purl 2): Creates the elastic cuff that holds the sock in place, worked for 20 rounds in a single color (Color A)
- Knit stitch: The foundation stitch used throughout the leg and foot sections
- Purl stitch: Used in the ribbing pattern to create texture and stretch
- Cable stitches: Twisted stitches created by crossing groups of stitches over one another using a cable needle, featured in the leg pattern
- Stranded colorwork: Two colors are carried and alternated on consecutive rounds to create the patterned design in the leg section
Materials Required
The Vishuddha pattern requires 100 grams total of 4-ply fingering weight sock yarn (420 meters or 459 yards), divided into two 50-gram balls in different solid colorways designated as Color A and Color B in the instructions. Additional tools include 5 double-pointed needles (DPNs) in size 2.5 mm (US 1.5), a cable needle for manipulating cable stitches, optional stitch markers for tracking rounds, and a darning needle for weaving in yarn ends upon completion.
Pattern Structure
The sock is constructed in distinct sections beginning with the cuff. Stitches are cast on and divided evenly across four needles for seamless in-the-round knitting. The cuff consists of 20 rounds of knit 2, purl 2 ribbing worked entirely in Color A. From round 21 onward (marked as round 1 on the pattern chart), the leg section begins, introducing alternating colorwork where Color A and Color B are switched on every round. The middle 30 stitches of the leg feature cable stitch patterns as indicated by the provided chart, creating visual interest and texture in the finished sock.
