What Is Being Made

Vector is a tube cowl designed by Makenzie Alvarez as a fun new interpretation of her Mountain Vector shawl. This cowl features a seamless tube construction that showcases the beautiful color transition between two contrasting yarn colors. The finished cowl measures 8.5 inches in width by 30 inches in circumference, making it a versatile accessory that can be worn as a traditional cowl or styled in multiple ways.

Design Inspiration and Construction Method

Vector was inspired by the designer's Mountain Vector shawl, which motivated the creation of this tube cowl version. The key advantage of the tube construction is that the entire cowl is knit in the round, which means all the floats from the color work are hidden inside the tube. This creates a polished, professional finish on both the inside and outside of the cowl. The design uses only two contrasting hanks of fingering weight yarn that slowly fade from one color to the next and back again, creating a gradient effect throughout the piece.

Knitting Techniques and Stitches

This intermediate-level knitting project employs circular knitting techniques worked in the round, which eliminates the need for seaming and creates a seamless tube. The pattern utilizes color work with floats that are concealed within the tube construction.
