Unboxing Sweater by Hanna Maciejewska
Garment Overview
Unboxing is a roomy, almost oversized knit sweater designed by Hanna Maciejewska. This seamlessly constructed garment features a modern silhouette with moderately fitted sleeves and a distinctive wide neckline. The design combines relaxed proportions with refined shaping, making it an ideal piece for those seeking comfortable yet polished knitwear.
Construction Method
The sweater is worked seamlessly from the top down, a construction technique that allows for easy fitting adjustments and eliminates the need for seaming. The wide neckline is created through short-row shaping applied to both the front and back of the garment, a method that adds depth and visual interest while maintaining structural integrity.
Stitch Pattern and Design Details
The centerpiece of Unboxing is its geometric stitch pattern, sourced from a vintage knitting magazine. This intricate motif has long inspired designer Hanna Maciejewska, and this sweater represents her first opportunity to feature the pattern prominently in a complete garment design. The pattern employs several cable stitches to create its distinctive visual texture:
- 1/1 LPC (Left Purl Cross): Slip 1 stitch to cable needle and hold in front; purl 1; knit 1 from cable needle
- 1/1 RPC (Right Purl Cross): Slip 1 stitch to cable needle and hold in back; knit 1; purl 1 from cable needle
- 2/2 RC (Right Cross): Slip 2 stitches to cable needle and hold in back; knit 2; knit 2 from cable needle
- 3/3 RC (Right Cross): Slip 3 stitches to cable needle and hold in back; knit 3; knit 3 from cable needle
Yarn and Materials
Unboxing is designed to be knitted in Dye Dye Done Yakalicious, a luxury blend yarn composed of 60% Merino wool, 20% silk, and 20% yak fiber. This fiber combination provides softness, sheen, and warmth. The yarn is supplied at approximately 400 yards per 100 grams, classified as 4-ply weight, suitable for creating garments with excellent drape and stitch definition.
Skill Level
This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty, appropriate for knitters with foundational skills who are comfortable working with cable stitches, seamless construction techniques, and short-row shaping. The geometric stitch pattern requires attention to detail and familiarity with reading complex stitch charts.
