Très Fun Cowl by Justyna Lorkowska

What is Being Made

Très Fun is a knitted cowl designed by Justyna Lorkowska. This is a one-size accessory piece with a neck opening circumference of 50cm/20" and a front depth of 56cm/22.25". The cowl features optional decorative tassels that can be attached after blocking for added visual interest and texture.

Techniques Used

This beginner-level knitting project employs several fundamental and intermediate techniques. The primary construction method uses brioche knitting, a reversible fabric technique that creates a luxurious, elastic texture. The pattern incorporates brioche knit (brk) and brioche purl (brp) stitches, as well as a specialized brioche knit 4-stitch increase (brk4st inc) for shaping. Additional shaping techniques include make one left (m1L) and make one right (m1R) increases worked between stitches, along with standard knit two together (k2tog) decreases. The cowl is worked in the round from the beginning of round (BOR), and features a stockinette stripe pattern section that provides visual contrast within the brioche sections.

Stitches Used

  • Stockinette stitch (in stripe sections)

Materials and Tools

This project requires 3 skeins of TréLiz Gaia Aran yarn in the main color, which is a blend of 85% merino wool and 15% acrylic. The aran weight yarn provides warmth and drape suitable for a cowl accessory. Knitting needles appropriate for aran weight yarn are needed for the main construction. A crochet hook is required for attaching the optional tassels after the cowl has been blocked. The tassel embellishment uses contrasting color (CC) yarn cut into approximately 20cm/8" strips, with 5 strips folded together to create each tassel loop.
