Product Description
The Wizard Jumper is a seamless knit, worked from the top down in Fisherman’s Rib. First, the roll neck is created, before working raglan increases for the yoke. The stitches are then divided for the sleeves and new stitches are cast on at the underarm. The body is worked separately while the sleeve stitches rest. The sleeve stitches are then picked up and worked with increases to create the flared sleeve. A contrasting colour yarn is then added in stocking stitch to finish. The Wizard Jumper is designed to be oversized.
The Wizard Jumper by Hannah Arterton
What Is Being Made
The Wizard Jumper is a seamless knitted sweater designed for an oversized fit. This intermediate-level knitting project creates a striking pullover jumper with distinctive construction techniques and contrasting color blocking. The garment is intentionally designed to be approximately 25cm (9¾ inches) wider than your actual bust measurement, making it a relaxed, comfortable everyday piece.
Construction Method
This jumper is worked seamlessly from the top down, eliminating the need for seaming and creating a smooth, professional finish. The construction begins at the neckline and progresses downward in a logical sequence that allows for easy customization and fitting adjustments as you work.
Stitches and Techniques Used
- Fisherman's Rib — The primary stitch used for the majority of the garment, creating a dense, textured fabric with excellent warmth and elasticity
- Raglan Increases — Strategic shaping increases worked at regular intervals to create the distinctive raglan sleeve cap, allowing for comfortable arm movement
- Stocking Stitch — Used for the contrasting color section at the finish, providing a smooth, classic knit texture that contrasts beautifully with the textured Fisherman's Rib
- Roll Neck — A tubular neckline created first, which naturally rolls for a cozy, refined finish
- Flared Sleeves — Increases are worked into the sleeve stitches to create a fashionable flared silhouette
- Cast-On at Underarm — New stitches are cast on under the arms to create the body width while sleeves rest on holders
Yarn and Materials
The Wizard Jumper is designed to be worked in aran weight yarn, which provides excellent stitch definition for the textured Fisherman's Rib pattern while remaining workable for an intermediate knitter. The pattern calls for contrasting color yarn to be introduced during the final stocking stitch section, allowing for creative color combinations and visual interest. Standard knitting needles appropriate for aran weight yarn are required to complete this project.
Sizing Information
Sizing is based on bust circumference measurement. The pattern recommends measuring your chest or the widest part of your torso to determine the appropriate size. Due to the intentional oversized design, if your bust measurement falls between two sizes, the pattern recommends knitting the smaller size for the best proportions.
