Product Description
In this pattern I have included kids and 2 styles of adult. This is a pretty easy pattern to work up this is why I made it for beginners. You can also add different stitches to make it a more advance pattern as you get the hang of it. I love that it can be a Mommy & Me pattern (for boys or girls) also and it is very easy to adjust sizing.
I've made tons of them for my kids, myself and friends and we always get tons of compliments. Super cozy to wear.
The Fam Hoodie by Audrey
What is Being Made
The Fam Hoodie is a versatile crochet garment designed by Audrey that offers multiple sizing options for the entire family. This pattern includes instructions for Kids winter, Adult summer, and Adult winter versions, making it an adaptable project suitable for year-round wear. The hoodie features an oversized fit, with front and back pieces that are constructed separately before assembly. The garment is designed to fit chest sizes ranging from up to 28 inches for kids to up to 42 inches for adults in the large size, with front piece lengths of 24 inches and back piece lengths of 27 inches.
Techniques Used
This beginner-friendly crochet pattern employs fundamental construction techniques that make it accessible to newer crocheters. The hood is constructed first, serving as the foundation for the garment, followed by the front piece. The back piece is then made using the same construction method as the front, streamlining the building process. The pattern utilizes basic crochet shaping and assembly methods, allowing crafters to create a structured, wearable garment without advanced techniques.
Stitches Used
- Chain (ch) — foundational stitch used to create the base of the work
- Single Crochet (sc) — basic stitch providing structure and density
- Double Crochet (dc) — stitch used for creating height and drape in the fabric
- Slip Stitch (ss) — joining stitch used to connect rounds and pieces together
Materials and Yarn Weight Options
The Fam Hoodie pattern offers exceptional flexibility in yarn weight selection, accommodating yarns ranging from DK weight through super chunky. The designer notes that yarn weight is optional and can be adjusted based on desired finished appearance and drape. For winter versions, Bernat Blanket Big (220 yards) is recommended, requiring 2 rolls for kids' sizes and 3 to 5 rolls for adult small, medium, and large respectively. For summer versions, Red Heart Super Saver Jumbo (482 yards) is suggested, particularly for printed colorways, requiring 1 to 2 rolls for adult sizes depending on fit preference.
The pattern accommodates varied yarn weights, allowing crafters to use single strands of heavier yarns or multiple strands of lighter yarns held together throughout the project. This flexibility means the pattern can be customized using yarn from a crafter's existing stash, provided the weight and yardage are appropriate.
Hook Size and Gauge
Hook sizes are flexible and typically range from size 8 or larger, depending on the yarn weight selected and the desired openness of the finished fabric. The pattern notes that gauge is not critical for this project, making it forgiving for beginners and allowing for personal customization of fabric density and drape based on individual preference and yarn choice.
