Product Description
I named this pattern “Crown Stitch” because the lacy part between groups of dcs reminded me of the royal symbol – the crown.
This garment is designed to fit tightly to the body and point out your curves. Crocheted clothes stretch when worn, so in case you wish the dress to be very tight, choose to crochet one size smaller than your usual size.
The dress is worked in the rounds, with 10 repeats of the pattern. The Crown Stitch is worked on 14 sts, and this part of the pattern doesn’t include increases. However, to shape the dress in the hip area and under bust, increases are necessary. The increases are worked in the part of the pattern with dc groups by working 2dc together in the middle of each dc group.
Since the “crown” pattern of this dress is quite transparent, I recommend lining the dress. This tutorial doesn’t have instructions for lining. Optionally, you can buy a light, short dress with low back and deep cleavage to wear beneath.
The Crown Stitch Dress – Crochet Pattern Overview
What Is Being Made
The Crown Stitch Dress is a sleeveless summer halter dress designed by Krpena Lutkica – Rag Doll (designer Jelena Mitić). This elegant crochet garment features a lacy construction with a crown-inspired stitch pattern that serves as a royal symbol throughout the design. The dress is tailored for both comfort and flattering fit, making it an ideal choice for transitional summer and early fall wear.
Sizing and Fit
This pattern is available in four sizes: Small (S), Medium (M), Large (L), and Extra Large (XL). The dress features specially designed cups that accommodate the unique bust size and shape of every woman, ensuring a customized and perfect fit. The halter style and figure-flattering construction create a sexy, elegant silhouette suitable for various body types.
Crochet Techniques Used
The Crown Stitch Dress employs intermediate-level crochet techniques to create its distinctive lacy appearance. The crown stitch pattern is the signature element, providing both visual interest and the royal symbol aesthetic that defines this design. The construction requires understanding of how to work specialty stitches and maintain proper shaping throughout the garment.
Stitches and Construction
- Crown Stitch – The primary decorative stitch that creates the lacy, royal-inspired pattern throughout the dress
- Specialty cup shaping stitches for proper bust accommodation and support
- Halter neckline construction requiring precise stitch placement and tension
Materials and Yarn Specifications
This pattern uses sport weight yarn, which is a lightweight option ideal for creating the lacy, breathable fabric necessary for a summer dress. Sport weight yarn allows for delicate stitch definition while maintaining enough structure for the dress's cup shaping and halter support. The pattern requires a crochet hook appropriate for sport weight yarn, though specific hook size recommendations are detailed within the full pattern instructions.
Difficulty Level
Rated as intermediate difficulty, The Crown Stitch Dress is suitable for crocheters with foundational skills who are ready to tackle more complex stitch patterns and garment shaping. The crown stitch pattern and customized cup construction require attention to detail and understanding of how individual stitches contribute to overall garment fit and appearance.
