Product Description
The Sweet Pea blanket has a beautifully textured stitch accented with stripes and bobbles. The blanket can be made with or without the bobbles, it would be pretty either way. The blanket is very easy to make with simple single crochet stitches, chains and double crochet bobbles. The stitches are simple (ch, sc, dc,) and repeated so it is perfect for any level of crochet. The pattern is written for worsted weight (medium, size 4) yarn but dk or chunky yarn can be used also.

Project Overview
The Sweet Pea Baby Blanket is a beginner-friendly crochet project designed by Deborah O'Leary. This downloadable PDF pattern creates a finished blanket measuring approximately 32 by 38 inches, making it an ideal size for a baby blanket. The design features a beautifully textured appearance achieved through a combination of simple stitches and optional decorative bobbles, with striped accents throughout the piece.
Design Features and Construction
This blanket showcases a textured stitch pattern accented with stripes and bobbles. The designer notes that the bobbles are optional—the blanket is equally attractive made without them, allowing crafters to customize the project to their preference. The straightforward construction makes this pattern suitable for beginners while still delivering a visually interesting finished product with dimension and texture.
Crochet Techniques and Stitches
The Sweet Pea Baby Blanket uses fundamental crochet stitches, making it accessible to those new to the craft. The primary stitches employed include:
- Single crochet - forms the main textured base of the blanket
- Chain stitches - used for foundation and structural elements
- Double crochet bobbles - optional decorative elements that add dimensional texture and visual interest
The combination of these basic stitches creates the blanket's characteristic textured appearance while remaining manageable for beginners.
Yarn and Materials
The Sweet Pea Baby Blanket pattern accommodates a range of yarn weights, including sport, DK, worsted, heavy worsted, aran, and chunky weights. This flexibility allows crafters to choose yarn based on personal preference, availability, and desired drape and texture of the finished blanket.
The pattern uses a multi-color approach with one main color and five accent colors for the stripes and bobbles. Yarn requirements are as follows:
- Main color: 900 yards
- Each accent color: 60 yards per color (5 accent colors total)
The pattern example was created using Berroco Modern yarn. A standard crochet hook appropriate to your chosen yarn weight is required to complete the project.
Difficulty Level
Rated as a beginner project, the Sweet Pea Baby Blanket is designed for crocheters new to the craft. The use of basic stitches and straightforward construction techniques make this an excellent choice for building foundational crochet skills while creating a practical, gift-worthy finished product.
