The Sweater

Techniques & Construction

• Cast on and garter stitch border: The back begins with a cast-on of 39–52 stitches (depending on size) followed by 4 rows of garter stitch (every row knit) to create a neat, non-curling hem edge.
• Main pattern body: After the garter stitch border, the work transitions into the main stitch pattern, which is worked throughout the body of the sweater.
• Armhole shaping: Armholes are marked with a row marker and shaped using decreases at each end of the work.
• Neck shaping: Centre stitches are placed on a holder (thread), and each shoulder section is worked separately with decreases at the neck edge to create a neat neckline.
• Stocking stitch: Stocking stitch (right side knit, wrong side purl) is used in sections of the sweater.
