Product Description
This is the same pattern I have listed under 'Rotlaub Leaf Collar Shrug', but I have found it can be called a different name with such a magic by making 1 piece turning to 2 stunning outfits. How wonderful and surprise!
I call this pattern as 'dual collar shrug' as you can wear this magic piece as an Elegant Shawl collar or a Stunning Rotlaub Leaf Collar shrug, just according to your mood at the time! Surely will add you a WOW factor among your friends. A great outfit for a cool night out.
The one size fits most shrug made by 100% dark purple bulky wool (12Ply). It is very easy to make for a beginner’s level and you will knit it with very basic stitches.
It sits on a bust size of 90-95cm without streching, but can easily fit a larger size.
Stunning Dual Collar Shrug by Jie
What is Being Made
The Stunning Dual Collar Shrug is a versatile knitted garment designed to transform into two distinct styles from a single pattern. This innovative piece functions as an elegant shawl collar shrug or converts to a Rotlaub Leaf Collar shrug depending on how you wear it. The finished shrug measures 22 inches (55 centimeters) in length without the collar and 18 inches (45 centimeters) in width across the back piece when unwrapped. This dual-purpose design makes it an excellent layering piece for cool evenings while offering styling flexibility for different occasions and moods.
Techniques and Construction
This beginner-level knitting project employs fundamental knitting techniques suitable for those new to the craft. The pattern utilizes stockinette stitch as the primary stitch structure, which creates a smooth, classic fabric with a recognizable V-pattern texture. The construction also incorporates single ribbon elements and basic shaping through increase stitches, which are worked by knitting into both the front and back of individual stitches to add width where needed. The reversible collar design is a key technical feature that allows the shrug to present two completely different aesthetic styles without requiring separate pattern pieces or complex construction methods.
Stitches Used
- Knit (K) – The fundamental stitch creating the primary fabric texture
- Purl (P) – Used in combination with knit stitches to create stockinette stitch
- Increase (Inc) – Worked by knitting into the front and back of a stitch to add stitches for shaping
- Chain (Ch) – Crochet foundation stitch used in pattern construction
- Slip stitch (Sl st) – Crochet stitch for joining and finishing
Materials and Tools
This project requires 550 grams of 100% worsted weight (12-ply) dark purple wool yarn, providing substantial yardage for the complete garment. The knitting needles include one pair of 6mm needles for the main fabric construction and one pair of 4mm needles for ribbing or edging work. A 4mm crochet hook is also needed for finishing techniques such as chain and slip stitch edging. The specified gauge for stockinette stitch is 16 stitches and 21 rows per 10 centimeters by 10 centimeters, while single ribbon sections work at 26 stitches and 21 rows in the same measurement, indicating different fabric densities within the design.
Skill Level
Rated as Easy – Beginner level, this pattern is ideal for knitters who are comfortable with basic stitches and simple shaping.
