Product Description
STOKEY Shawl is knitted flat beginning from one corner to the opposite side. Due to the asymmetric shape, one end of the shawl is longer than the other. The pattern is made with two stitch patterns, Irish Moss Stitch and Stockinette Stitch. The edges are rolling up slightly in the section with the Stockinette Stitch. The shawl can be made as a unicolor, two or three color version. The texture and/or the color change runs diagonally through the shawl and gives it an interesting and modern look.
Following basic knitting techniques are needed: Long Tail Cast On / Knitting and purling stitches / Working a Yarn Over
Following Special Knitting Techniques are shown as tutorials (photo and text) in the pattern: purl a yarn over through back loop / slip stitch(es) purlwise (as if to purl) with yarn in front / I-Cord Bind Off
In addition to a written step by step instruction, a schematic and photo-tutorials, you will also find a schematic to make the pattern very easy to follow.
STOKEY Shawl by Evgeniya Dupliy
What Is Being Made
The STOKEY Shawl is an asymmetrical triangular shawl designed by Evgeniya Dupliy. This knitted accessory features a distinctive asymmetrical shape where one end of the shawl is longer than the other, creating a modern and dynamic silhouette. The shawl is knitted flat, beginning from one corner and working toward the opposite side, making it an interesting construction project for intermediate knitters.
Design and Color Options
The STOKEY Shawl offers versatility in color application, available as a unicolor design or in two to three color versions. The color blocking and texture changes run diagonally through the shawl, creating visual interest and a contemporary aesthetic. This diagonal element adds depth and movement to the finished piece, making it suitable for both solid yarn choices and strategic color work.
Knitting Techniques and Stitches
This pattern employs two distinct stitch patterns to create textural variation:
- Irish Moss Stitch — A textured stitch pattern that provides visual and tactile interest to portions of the shawl
- Stockinette Stitch — A smooth, classic stitch used in other sections; note that the edges roll up slightly in the Stockinette Stitch sections, which is a natural characteristic of this stitch and adds to the shawl's organic appearance
The combination of these two stitch patterns creates the diagonal texture and color transitions that define the shawl's modern look.
Yarn and Materials
The STOKEY Shawl is worked in DK weight yarn, a versatile mid-weight that provides good stitch definition for both the textured Irish Moss Stitch and the smooth Stockinette Stitch sections. Standard knitting needles appropriate for DK yarn are required to complete this project.
Skill Level
This pattern is rated at an intermediate skill level and is designed for knitters with some knitting experience. The combination of two stitch patterns, asymmetrical shaping, and the flat knitting construction from corner to opposite side make this an engaging project for those ready to move beyond beginner patterns.
