Product Description
Each one of us can be an oasis of peace. --Desmond Tutu
For those of us that love the fiber arts, we use our crocheting and knitting to find our own little oasis of peace. Working through the stitches helps quiet the mind and create a sense of calm.
If you like my one-skein scarves that are crocheted sideways from tip to tip, you will also like Stitch Oasis. This scarf has a little trick to add depth to the center point, but without consuming a lot more yarn. And, I included a border on both edges that is formed as you crochet through the rows, plus an additional lacy edging added to the bottom edge.
Stitch Oasis takes it up a notch with added details and being a little bit more involved, but it is still an easy crochet project. Best of all with a generous length and additional depth it is still a one skein wonder! It really is amazing how, with a little thought, you can make a scarf with a generous length and a little more depth and only use about 440 yards of fingering weight yarn.
Stitch Oasis Crochet Scarf by CJ Brady Designs
Project Overview
Stitch Oasis is a one-skein crochet scarf pattern designed by CJ Brady Designs. This intermediate-level project creates a generous-length scarf with added depth and visual interest, using approximately 440 yards of fingering weight yarn. The design philosophy centers on creating a meditative crafting experience, allowing crocheters to find peace and calm through the rhythmic process of working through stitches.
Construction Method
This scarf is crocheted sideways from tip to tip, a technique that allows for efficient yarn usage while creating a scarf with substantial length. The sideways construction method means you work from one pointed end to the opposite pointed end, building width as you progress rather than working lengthwise in the traditional manner.
Design Features and Details
- Added depth at the center point without requiring significantly more yarn
- Integrated border crocheted directly through the rows to both edges as you work
- Additional lacy edging applied to the bottom edge for decorative finish
- Combines simplicity with refined details for an elevated finished appearance
Techniques and Stitches
While specific stitch names are not detailed in the pattern description, Stitch Oasis employs crochet techniques that create both textured and lacy elements. The pattern includes integration of border stitches worked concurrently with main construction, plus a separate lacy edging technique applied as a finishing detail. This multi-layered approach adds complexity and visual depth while remaining accessible to intermediate crocheters.
Yarn and Materials
This pattern is designed for fingering weight yarn (also called 3-ply and 4-ply weights), with the designer's sample using Malabrigo yarn. The pattern requires approximately 440 yards of fingering weight yarn, making it a true one-skein project that yields a scarf with generous length and noticeable dimension.
Skill Level
Rated as intermediate difficulty, Stitch Oasis is described as a little bit more involved than basic one-skein scarves, yet remains an easy crochet project. The added details and construction techniques require some experience but are achievable for crocheters comfortable with fundamental stitches and edge techniques.
