Product Description
Pattern Updated September 13, 2021
The Taryn Beanie is named after a brave little girl I know. Thanks to the wonderful people of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and the mercy of God, she went up against a lethal brain tumor and won! In honor of Taryn and other children like her, all proceeds from this pattern (every cent not needed for listing fees) are donated to St. Jude.
Transparency and integrity are so important! I can provide receipts of donations to St. Jude from pattern sales upon request (with personal information concealed). Please do not hesitate to ask for these if you would like to see them before making your purchase.
St. Jude - Taryn Beanie by Blue Daffodil Crafts
What Is Being Made
The Taryn Beanie is a knit hat designed in six sizes with options to create a fitted or slouchy silhouette. This beanie features a distinctive panel of climbing dandelion stitches that begin at the brim and rise upward, symbolizing hope. The design is versatile and can be adapted for different yarn weights beyond the worsted weight specified in the original pattern. All proceeds from the sale of this pattern are donated to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
Techniques Used
This intermediate-level knitting project incorporates several key techniques. The pattern requires working with climbing dandelion stitches, which create a textured, dimensional panel that forms the visual focal point of the beanie. Knitters will work in the round to construct the hat, managing increases and decreases to shape the crown. The pattern includes instructions for customizing the fit, allowing makers to choose between a fitted style that hugs the head or a slouchy style that drapes more loosely. The ability to modify the pattern for different yarn weights adds flexibility for crafters working with materials beyond the standard worsted weight.
Stitches Used
- Climbing dandelion stitches – the signature stitch pattern that creates the symbolic rising design element on the beanie
- Standard knit and purl stitches for the base construction
- Increases and decreases for shaping the crown
Materials
The Taryn Beanie is designed for worsted weight yarn, though the pattern notes that it can be modified for different yarn weights. Knitters will need appropriate knitting needles sized to work with their chosen yarn. The pattern is available as a downloadable PDF format, making it accessible for immediate use once purchased.
Pattern Details
Designed by Dana Silvers of Blue Daffodil Crafts, the Taryn Beanie pattern includes sizing instructions for six different sizes, accommodating a range of head measurements. The intermediate difficulty level makes this project suitable for knitters with some experience who are ready to work with textured stitch patterns and in-the-round construction. The pattern's flexibility to adjust between fitted and slouchy options means a single pattern can produce multiple style variations.
