Product Description
I held the socks up to my son for his approval. He said, “Cool! What are they called?” I told him I had no idea. He beamed. “They’re sockadelic!” And so the sockadelic socks were named. After that, what else could you call them? On these socks, a modified k2, p1 rib flows into the wavy chevron pattern that is strong enough to stand up against this wonderfully bright and crazy yarn. The purl ridges break up any pooling and stand out like little ruffles. Instructions are written for magic loop, but this can easily be worked on dpns as well.

What is Being Made
Sockadelic Socks are a pair of knitted socks designed to showcase vibrant, multicolored yarn with bold visual impact. These socks feature a distinctive wavy chevron pattern that creates dynamic movement and visual interest throughout the leg and foot. The design was named for its eye-catching, playful aesthetic that celebrates bright and colorful yarn choices.
Knitting Techniques Used
This sock pattern employs several intermediate-level knitting techniques to create its signature look. The socks begin with a modified k2, p1 rib cuff that transitions smoothly into the main wavy chevron pattern. The chevron stitch structure is specifically engineered to be strong and durable enough to handle busy, multicolored yarn without the pattern becoming lost or overwhelmed by the yarn's visual complexity.
A key design feature involves the strategic use of purl ridges throughout the pattern. These purl ridges serve a dual purpose: they break up potential yarn pooling (where similar colors cluster together unattractively) and create decorative texture that stands out like small ruffles across the sock surface. This thoughtful construction ensures the chevron pattern remains visible and striking even when worked in highly saturated, variegated colorways.
Stitches Used
- Knit (k) – The fundamental stitch forming the base of the fabric
- Purl (p) – Creates the textured ridges and ribbed cuff sections
- Yarn over (yo) – Generates the lacy, open elements of the chevron pattern
- Knit 2 together (k2tog) – A right-leaning decrease that shapes the chevron angles
- Slip, slip, knit (ssk) – A left-leaning decrease that balances the k2tog decreases and creates symmetrical chevron points
Materials and Construction Method
Sockadelic Socks are worked in 4-ply yarn weight, specifically using Politically Incorrect Superwash Sock Bar in the Nun colorway. One skein provides 100 grams and 460 yards of yardage, sufficient for a complete pair of socks. The pattern is designed for magic loop construction on a single 40-inch circular needle in 2.5mm size, allowing for seamless, in-the-round knitting. However, the instructions are flexible enough to be easily adapted for double-pointed needles (dpns) if that is the knitter's preferred method.
The superwash treatment of the yarn makes these socks practical for regular wear and easy care, while the 4-ply weight provides durability and a comfortable fit. A tapestry needle is required for weaving in ends upon completion.
Difficulty Level
This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for knitters who have mastered basic sock construction and are comfortable working with stitch decreases, yarn overs, and pattern repeats. The combination of ribbing, chevron shaping, and color management requires attention to detail and familiarity with in-the-round knitting techniques.
