Product Description

This cute sloth is a chocolate cover. I have put a Creme Egg chocolate inside but any similar sweet could be used. This makes a stunning addition to your Easter table, a fantastic fund raising item for fayres and bazaar's or great as a novelty decoration or egg hunt.

This listing, is for the pattern only and not for the item itself.

This pattern is printed on a laminated sheet.

Sloth Creme Egg Chocolate Cover by Andrew Lucas

What is Being Made

This is a knitted decorative cover designed to fit over a Creme egg chocolate, featuring a sloth design. The project creates a small, stuffed knitted accessory that combines both functional and whimsical appeal, perfect for gift-giving or seasonal decoration.

Craft and Primary Technique

This is a knitting project suitable for beginner-level crafters. The design uses fundamental knitting techniques that build foundational skills while creating an adorable finished piece. The pattern demonstrates how simple stitch manipulations and shaping techniques can produce a recognizable three-dimensional form.

Stitches and Techniques Used

  • Garter stitch (gs) – knit every row, creating a textured, reversible fabric that forms the primary structure of the cover
  • Make one (m1) – increases worked by knitting into the back of the loop between two stitches, used strategically to shape the piece
  • Knit two together (k2tog) – a decrease technique that reduces stitch count and creates shaping
  • Bind and tie (B and T) – a finishing method where the wool end is threaded on a tapestry needle, passed through remaining stitches, drawn up, and tied off to close the piece
  • Cast on and cast off – fundamental techniques for beginning and ending the knitted fabric

Materials Required

The pattern calls for 3.25mm needles and double knitting wool in three colors: brown, beige, and black (used as oddments or leftover yarn). A small amount of stuffing material is needed to give the cover its three-dimensional shape and structure.

Pattern Structure

The body is constructed by casting on 9 stitches and working entirely in garter stitch. The pattern uses strategic increases in the early rows to expand from 9 stitches to a maximum of 33 stitches, creating the rounded form. Decreases are then worked systematically to shape and close the piece, with the final row reducing to 7 stitches before binding off and tying.
